# how to remove stuck exhaust silencer

how can i remove the silencer from my cat back exhaust with out damaging the exhaust its self. The silencer seems to be stuck inside. thanks

vice grip. or screwdriver through the holes if your tip has them and hit the screwdriver till it comes out.

This reminds me of how i took mine off. I couldn’t fiddle it off with a screwdriver or anything, it wasn’t nudging at all. So i just took a broom and started hitting the damn thing from the inside, until it fell right out. 😛

if the bolts holding it in are stripped and you cant get a good grip on them, you could saw a line into the bolt and then stick something in the gap (like a flathead screw driver or something) to be able to twist it

bolts removed and catbacks installed so i cant hit it inside with a broom

Drive around some industrial areas, bring something long and solid to put in the silencer hole, and once heated up enough try wiggling it out.
Has worked for me before.

lol i got the exhaust hot and grabbed a 1500lb tow strap got it in the hole pulled and pulled and pulled and pulled wouldn’t budge . so now i have a tow strap stuck in my exhaust. i drive to a buddies place get there and the strap was melted so the hook was in the exhaust so we bust out air tools and pry bars and for the first it put up a fight but after a while we got it

I’m having the exact same problem. I went at it with vice grips and thing still doesn’t wanna come out. I’ve been trying for days trying to find better ideas…

torch. warm up the pipe. pull it out. low and slow heat.

Hmm… Guess ill give the torch a try, if that doesn’t work looks like I’m gonna have to cut it out and go at it with a broom lol!

Make sure the metal is cold. use a penatrant spray inside the exhaust and it will loosen it up. Pull it out with vice grips or wtv you can. If that doesnt work when the metal expands shouldnt be hard to get it out so torch it and pull it out

get a small cutting disc cut a line and bend it till u can get a grip with what ever toolur using and pull
