Why are these 2 laptops so different in price and is one vastly superior to the other? Keep in mind, I don’t care about the fancy security thumb print shit…and I would ditch the extended warrenty bringing #2 down to like $1,800 I only put it in there to make them as equal as possible. the processors are the same specs (4MB, 667)

I want a 17" screen, no larger, no smaller. I have a 12.1" laptop for a travel laptop, this is more of a desktop replacement for home that I can work on.

My guess is the Quadro graphics cards. Otherwise the two look identical. You can pack more features into the consumer line for the price, but I’ve found that the HP business line is better in terms of quality.

personal, I already have a company laptop, although I would be doing work on this (illustrator, photoshop, quark, dreamweaver, flash, etc…)
but I would be paying for this (if I weren’t I’d just buy the $3,500 machine)

If you’ve got the money to blow, then by all means do it.
But you can get something just as fast for half as much if you watch the dell deals on [slickdeals.net](http://slickdeals.net).
2 years ago I got a dell inspiron with a pentium M for 599.
I also got a p4 desktop 2 years ago for 300 bucks.
USUALLY their top of the line stuff doesn’t go on sale, so if you must have that then pay retail.

Word ^. “Top of the line” is only top of the line usually for a couple months tops, so no reason to drop a few G on it. I got my P4 Dell Desktop three years ago or so, paid $ 400 after a rebate but it came w/ a 19" flat screen, which I sold for over $ 300. Great deal.
Usually you won’t be able to see performance differences between top of the line and second best anyway. Just my opinion.
