cliff notes
Well there is another strong hurricane going into the gulf.
Rita is rapidly strengthening, it hit the florida keys as a weak category 1 and is now estimated to be a category 4 with top winds around 135mph and likely to strengthen when it gets over the deep warm water in the gulf
This cant be good for gas prices, and god help new orleans if it hits there

my guess is it hits about 100 miles north of Galveston, and will hit as a Cat 5. :eek:

The hurricane threatened to shut facilities unaffected by Hurricane Katrina, which devastated the Gulf coast three weeks ago and pushed oil to a record high of $70.85 a barrel.
_Texas is home to some of the largest plants in the U.S., and accounts for a quarter of the refining capacity in the world’s largest energy consumer._
U.S. refineries were still struggling to meet demand after Katrina, which disrupted supplies so badly that international reserves had to be tapped.
this one should make it over $4/gallon easily. :mad:

got family-in-law in Corpus Christi, TX… they are dead nuts in the path of a suggested Cat IV. ☹

New Orleans? what’s that?
and i totally agree with howie…was stupid to build/inhabit there anyway…and considering for one second doing it all over again…would be oober dumb…i say we stay outta there, nothing man made can compete with nature’s furies…(ie hurricanes, earth quakes, flooding, land slides, tsunamis, etc etc)

im originally from galveston beach,texas and really worried about my friends and family…the beach area is a barrier island and has alot of attractions that might not be there by the end on the weekend…

i’m with You, though my concerns are now only on the edge of the projected pathway… but that isn’t much comfort.
They cannot leave because they run the local zoo.
