The original Volstead Act had defined “intoxicating beverage” as one with greater than 0.5% alcohol.[[1]](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prohibition_in_the_United_States#cite_note-nih2006-0) Upon signing the amendment, Roosevelt made his famous remark; **“I think this would be a good time for a beer.”** [[11]](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prohibition_in_the_United_States#cite_note-10) The Cullen-Harrison Act became law on April 7, 1933, and on April 8, 1933, Anheuser-Busch, inc. sent a team of [Clydesdale horses](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clydesdale_%28horse%29) to deliver a case of Budweiser to the [White House](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_House). The Eighteenth Amendment was repealed on December 5, 1933 with ratification of the [Twenty-first Amendment](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twenty-first_Amendment_to_the_United_States_Constitution). Despite the efforts of [Heber J. How is it that this is the 1st time I have heard about national beer day? I did drink beer, but I would have had more if I was celebrating. ---
