What would you get? I don’t like dodge so I want to avoid that… but between chevy and ford trucks I’m indifferent. I want a turbodiesel, something newer. I know they’ll run forever so is mileage really a major concern? Which engines/trannys should I avoid? I’ll be DDing this and it’ll also be a farm vehicle that I use, so consider that when giving recommendations. What should I expect to pay? I don’t need anything too new. 08 probably being the cutoff unless it’s some killer deal. I really would like to buy my stepfather’s truck. 09 2500hd sierra, allison tranny, crew cab, it’s just a good truck, but I don’t think he’s too interested in selling it. between the 2, I’d get the ford. but i will say that chevy’s allison trannies are pretty much indestructible. If it was me buying the truck, I wouldnt hesitate to buy a Cummins. But thats my preference. ---

I’m not hesitant about the cummins. I’m hesitant about literally every other piece of the truck. I love the allison tranny. I also like the ~750 lbs/ft of torque that 6.6 duramax puts out. It gets decent milage and probably would be better even with a tuner. I don’t know very much about the ford trucks. I’ve always preferred ford cars though. Something tells me that 7.3 sucks on fuel. ---

that '01 Chevy 2500HD is what i’d get. that rocker thing sounds like he means they’re getting thin, but that’s why you dont buy a car (especially a truck) sight unseen. ---

The front ends arent the greatest on dodge trucks, but a cummins with a 6speed is as indestructable as any GM diesel drivetrain ---

You can get either full replacement rockers or just slip on rocker covers from someone on this forum :ninja ---

Ive always liked ford interiors and styling better. Edit: the newest diesel motor ford is offering has big numbers but in real world testing motor trend wasnt impressed with the power delivery. ---

D-max. I have friends with a few fords and have had problems with them. One of my buddies D-maxs had a issue while under warrenty, but has since been nothing but dependable. Im a GM guy, so like many, I am bias tward the Chevy/GMC. ---

i’m not biased toward either, but the 6.0 has alot of problems, headstuds, gaskets, egr, oil cooler, and a few no start problems if not properly serviced. As far as the duramax, not alot to speak of very reliable and much easier to add reliable power. ---

I was looking for a diesel for the longest time before I got my BMW. For me I’d go with a 07 ram 2500, amazing mpg due to being before emissions. But I know you said no ram so Id say the ford but the 6.0 is garbage and the 07-10 get like 8mpg. Hate how the chevy/gmc look. Couldn’t pay me to spend that much money on a plain ass truck that’s looked the same since psi2high started banging guys.
