[http://www.niagara-gazette.com/local/local\_story\_334235236.html](http://www.niagara-gazette.com/local/local_story_334235236.html) Agents catch car smuggling attempt U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents have arrested a Canadian man after he tried to smuggle a specially built sports car across the Lewiston-Queenston Bridge. The agents said William Scarr, 48, was attempting to import and sell a 1994 Toyota Celica GT-4 to a U.S. citizen without the proper licenses. The car, which was manufactured in Japan, had four-wheel drive, the steering wheel on the right side and was made to compete in the World Rally Championships. Agents seized the car and arrested Scarr. He faces federal charges of false statements and smuggling of prohibited goods into the U.S. ---

in any shape or form would a car like that or a skyline ect be legal to import as a track only car? i know it’s sure as hell not going to be able to be federalized and legal. ---

I don’t understand how they can take the car if it is registered in Canada, or it has a dealer plate on it. They don’t know that he was going to sell it in the United States. Couldn’t the car even be sold as a kit car? ---

It seems that he had already modified something to make it be registered as another car or whatnot, sense they said “false statements” or whatever he probably could have gotten away with it if it wasnt for those meddling kids and their dog ---

Was this an actual WRC car? Or were they hyping the story because it “could” compete in a rally? ---

i dont understand how they can seize the car, currently, it cant be registered in the states for use on public roads, but if your using it as a race car or show piece, who cares? ---

Because you can’t just claim a car is a “race” car and bring it in. You have to fill out the proper forms, same thing for show cars. They need proven history in said field to be used or brought in under very specific exemptions. It’s all very clearly laid out. ---
