# Insurance for SR20 240

I have been informed by my insurance company after they had an appraiser look at my car that they will no longer insure my car because it has a different engine than stock. Do we have to lie about this modification or are there insurance companies that will insure our cars?

don’t tell them dude - in fact don’t mention anything about any upgrades at all, unless you really want to insure them

Tell them that it is stock.
Technically, your not lieing.

i think he might be fucked now though, i always thought that insurance companies used the same database for keeping track of this shit, hopefully not though.

just goto another company most places wont even look at your car. dont tell them it has a swapped motor even if they do look at it say its stock it says nissan on the egnine that should be enough to make them believe so.

I just got a new 240, 4 weeks ago and I had to go and get it appraised. Last night I got a call from them saying the apprasser said my car was being used for comercial use (which it is not, and nore did I mentioned or have anything in my car to resemble comercial use), and they went on, to ask if the had STB’s were still on, because they didn’t see them in the pics. The previous onwer had them on before I purchased the vehicle.
So be carefull, and I don’t think you can get around it now, unless it’s with entirly seperate company.

The company I was with told me there would be no difference in price if I swapped my ka for the sr20det.
So I guess its where you go? but everyone seems to say the same thing keep your mouth shut or they fuck you for more $$$$$ or drop your ass

It’s the same thing with RHD cars. You ask the insurance company if they insure the 11 Digit vin. If they say yes your golden. However, I wouldn’t suggest mentioning its RHD. As stupid as it sounds, some companies will insure the 11 digit vin, but not RHD vehicles…

you can go to nissan and get them to wright you a letter that states it is the stock motor (they will do it cause the 180 is the same as the 240) and give it to your insu. company and tell them that it was cheaper than finding a usdm motor, and the dealership told you it was the same and it was dealer installed.

ya its tricky, i didn’t tell them, then some ass in a civic pulled in front of my coupe and wrote it off the adjuster came looked at it then the insurance co phoned me and said they would give me 500$ for the car and that the car would go to scrap. i lmfao told them to go fuck them self’s and that i had over 10gs invested. i had to produce all receipts. this was in sept 08 i still havent got a dime and the storage costs on my car are now over 8000$ which they refuse to pay i am currently in a legal battle with them.
moral if plan on spending alot on your car get it appraised trust me !!

My insurance company doesent care what I do to my car.
My family is with them, house, life, other vehicles, etc, so they can’t drop me.
They simply said: “Be safe”
And I’m quoted 150$/month.

I told mine, however I made point to say the 4 clylinder I put in is actually smaller and original eguipment for the car in other continents. I had no problem.

Not to high jack this thread, but when you get it emission tested they’ll list the motor has a 2.0L turbo, correct me if I’m wrong, and will that not get back to the insurance company through the MTO?

Run it as hot rod when you swap in an engine with lower displacement.
And when doing an etest you have to input both 2.0 and hot rod… you dont only enter hot rod.
I don’t think insurance is notified. My brother did it no problems. I just did it and haven’t had a problem yet.
And if all else fails im gonna look into that note from nissan but i’m not expecting any hassles.
