> [@WTEN](#): > > Hurricane Irene is still a Category 3 major hurricane, and is likely to intensify further today. New forecast data has brought the storm’s track farther back to the west, suggesting a landfall on central or western Long Island, much closer to New York City. It is looking increasingly likely that we will see some significant effects as the storm races by to our east. Rainfall amounts could easily top 6"+ in western and central New England. Much of the Hudson Valley, Lake George, and Capital Region could be looking at 3"-6" of rain, with 1"-3" possible in the Adirondacks and western hill towns. In addition, most of our area will likely be subjected to tropical storm-force winds, with gusts possibly approaching hurricane-force. All of this is subject to the storm’s track and intensity, so these numbers may change. Be sure to take some precautionary measures around your home in the next few days. Neat. ---
