I find it difficult to hold the Palestinians to fault for this, since they were made refugees and the second holiest city in their religion was stripped to them and given to foreigners. Creating Israel was just about the worst possible move, when it was done. Palestine won’t accept any solution that doesn’t give them control of Jerusalem. Israel won’t even split the city. They need to create an independent Israel, an independent Palestine, and a free, independent Jerusalem run by elected officials and preserved by the U.N. It’s the only solution I can see. Until then, it’s just going to be a matter of Palestine striking because they’re refugees from their own land, Israel striking back because they’re losing a few civilians. Repeat ad nauseum. ---

People in the U.S. act as if Arab = Evil and Israel is some kind of City on the Hill that we must defend. It’s an artificial state that was created to satisfy guilt after World War II. We displaced people from their homes, disenfranchised them, and made them subject to a people whose religion and culture they disliked. And we’re surprised when those same people fight for their homeland. I wonder how often Jerusalem as an international city comes up in peace negotiations. It’s really the only solution. ---
