This is the continued pussification of America.

Adam Smith would say that every act of online bullying would be offset by an equal act of online defense, thus the increased exposure to one another that the internet creates would result in a net change in the total social self-esteem influence of zero.

Of course we all know that amplitude doesn’t matter.

> For those of you who faced bullying and got through it, I have to ask for how many years and how severe was it? Was it just picking and name calling and piddly things? Which IMO kids should be subject to so they can learn to deal with it. When it becomes extreme and extended (IE: Major embarrassment on a daily basis, 5-1 fights, vehicles vandalized, Rejected by everyone, forced isolation, threats against other people for hanging out with certain individuals) And this goes on for periods of years; people get worn down. One can only keep fighting daily until they’re both mentally and physically exhausted. Just like if you beat a dog enough, he will stop fighting eventually and just withdraw and be fearful of everyone.

^this. Huge difference between bullying and extreme bullying.

I really think we need to allow self defense/retaliation/punching to be acceptible means to stand up to bullies, without punishment so long as it’s justified. It’s pretty simple, if someone’s being a dick to you it should be fair game for him to get it handed to him, from anyone who is trying to defend the kid getting bullied. Did we all forget ‘Christmas Story’?

I never wanted to commit suicide, because I’m way too rad to be dead… but, I was definetely bullied, which is part of the reason I am who I am today. 5th-7th grade were super rough for me. Girls were fucking cunts. I was spit on, got hit a few times at the playground, embarrassed by my “friends,” shit talked to at the lunch table, attacked on the school bus, etc. And that’s only because I had acne and didn’t shop at american eagle. I could never imagine the bullshit this kid was put through.

None of you know what went on on a daily basis so anyone saying bullying is normal, shut the fuck up. It fucking sucks.

Don pointed out survival of the fittest rather well and that’s my stance. It’s always going to be them or me in my mind…and I won’t be offing myself ever.
If I felt pushed that far…that it became “them or me” I would handle my business with equal or stronger vigor in attempt to set an example. There’s only so much you can take before you snap.

I agree with Motorcross. Schools are open places to promote learning. Students causing problems and making it a difficult place for kids to feel comfortable there and not able to learn should have been dealt with by the school.

Bullying and trying to be dominate is in the nature and most of the people who got picked on in my school are the ones actually doing stuff with their life while the ones who were the “cool kids” and making fun of people who were into school, “nerds”, etc. are the ones still living at home doing nothing with their life except hanging out at local bars talking about how great high school was. The extreme stuff like violence needs to be dealt with on multiple levels. Kids need to grow and I am really against all the new rules and stuff like playgrounds where kids cant run and parents preventing their kids from getting dirty and cut up from falling off their bike but stuff is getting out of hand with the increase of violence at and outside of school and is going beyond the basic name calling and stuff.

A lot of times this comes full circle. My fiancee was picked on extensively during middle school (not as much in HS) for being overweight. She is now losing all that weight (down almost 80lbs) and the kids that picked on her in MS and HS are now fat, low rent, white trash, assholes. So I’m sure you can look at some of the people who picked on you and feel pretty damn good about yourself.

Yeah. It’s a shame that it doesn’t matter to you when you’re young that the “cool kids” are usually the ones that don’t amount to fuck all.

Employment at will.

Education at will.

If you disrupt the education of a fellow classmate, you will be removed from the equation. Parents don’t like it? Then be a better example for your child.

I would comment more if I had the time right now, but it’s definitely a shame to see something like this happen. Even more so is how just days ago people could have stepped in if they saw this: [http://hausofjamey.tumblr.com/](http://hausofjamey.tumblr.com/)

Hypothetically… what if this kid offed the people that bullied the shit out of him?

I will also say that from what I’ve read, I highly doubt that anyone in this thread received even 1/10 the shit that this kid did.

I think that Jamey was mentally ill, but I think that steps were being taken by his parents AND himself.

I think that the kids who bullied him were failed by their own parents, and the educational system in general, and that from this side of it, very little action was taken.

I think that, legally, harassment charges are certainly in order. Manslaughter, I am against.

It’s sad to see situations like this end like this…but a few thoughts.

> [@1QIKZ](#):
>
> are we going to prosecute everyone whether it’s based on a “hate crime” or no?

The whole hate crime issue bothers me too. To me, it’s a bit conflicted.
Basically it’s the gov’ts way of singling ppl out when they preach day in, day out about tolerance and equality.
For example, if someone kills someone, what difference does it make what race/sexual orientation/religion they were, murder is murder. A life was still taken and it shouldn’t be more serious or worth more if the victim was of a different race/religion or sexual orientation.

> [@JayS](#):
>
> I think there’s a much deeper underlying problem that parents are preaching the “you’re so special” mentality too much though, and as kids reach the age where their peers start telling them they’re not perfect and aren’t always going to be on the winning team they can’t handle it
> The term “generation therapy” is getting tossed around now, because this current generation that has never played games where someone gets picked last (or not at all) is hitting the real world like Ryan Dunn hit that tree.

Dead nuts on.
That entailed with entitlement issues.
It’s scary to think that there are now at least two generations out there that, to put in laments terms, are whiny, bitchy, snotty, hand out, worked for nothing, expect to have everything handed to them, can’t take no for an answer, pussies.

But I also think that the internet and social networking sites have given bullies “e-muscles” because they can sit there lazy asses behind the safety of a computer screen without and consequences.
Many would never do or say these things to a person face to face.

What happened to the good old playground brawl, when it was over and done with?
