those are your secondary air pump lines. they are VERY fragile. ---

actually i’d venture to guess it is not your thermostat. I’d guess the water pump has come apart. Super common on those so called “hands of god” motors. ---

just replaced the waterpump on my vr6 today…pain in the ass, and was gunna do the thermostat but is gunna be a pain in the dick to get to so ill wait till i do my timing chains and have my tranny out…good luck with replacing your thermostat ---

difficult to get at but it can be done without removal of the alternator. Just unbolt the bracket holding your n249 valve in front of the intake mani. Disconnect the wiring harness and pull the bracket out of the way. ---

Tmrw I’ll be tearing it apart, whether I replace just the t-stat or everything under the hood is another issue. This car will be for sale in the spring. ---

Haha, speaking of bottling…I have 2 liters of really yummy coolant if anyone would like. It’s a combination of pink, orange and green…mmmmm. FAIL! I can’t comprehend the amount of dumb that the previous owner must have been to do this kind of stuff to a perfectly good car lol. HUGE thanks to Mike (Badnewsmini) for helping me out :tup: it was a pain in the butt spot to locate a thermostat, but then again it is a VW lol. ---

It’s blowing nice toasty hot air and no check engine light for the coolant system anymore :tup: Now I just need 4 new coilpacks to get rid of the random misfires in cylinder 1 and 3…lol ---
