I have a parts car with no title and the scrapper in lockport wont take it with out the title or the previous owners id. Is there anything I can do? Should I cut it up into a hundred pieces and send it with my other car that has a title?

I know from firsthand experience that this is true. Here’s a good story for you guys:

A few years ago I was at my grandfather’s house in a pretty lousy neighborhood, the same one where I grew up. No one else was there, I was there fixing his computer at about 1 PM. I hear some noise and commotion outside.

I go out there and there’s a tow-truck towing away my grandfather’s car that was in his driveway that he recently took the plates off of and was trying to figure out what to do with it.

I talk to the guy who appeared to be giving orders to the guy with the tow truck and I ask him what he was doing. He told me that the man who lived in the house, presumably my grandfather, sold him the car. I asked the guy if the man who sold it to him was an older guy who was tall. He said yeah. My grandfather is like 5’3" so then I knew he was lying. They took off with the car but I took down the name of the towing company/junkyard on the truck. I called my dad and told him what happened, he was actually on his way over anyway. He went to the junkyard and pretty much asked them what the hell they were thinking.

The guy at the junkyard said the “customer” said he owned the car and wanted to scrap it. The fucking guy lied and said that my grandfather’s car was his and tried to scrap it, essentially stealing it and then knowing it would be scrapped, destroying the evidence. The fucking junkyard never asked him for a title. Fuckers.

So yeah, the point of my story is that I know for a fact that certain junkyards don’t ask for titles. And no, I honestly don’t remember the name of the place so don’t ask.

I vote cut it up in pieces and sell it on ebay.

Lot of 1,000 metal pieces from various items.

You have no idea how common this is. Especially when scrap is high. we’ve run into this scam often. Towing co. tows cars off street (w/ no right to) and takes to scrap yard and car is scraped. Its actually called

wait for it…

Auto theft

unfortunately Buffalo PD could care less.

There are numerous ways to deal with a car with no title.

1 and probably the easiest way is to get a form from DMV online, its called a lost title/abandonment form.

Basically you are stating that the car has sat abandoned on your property for more than 30 days, therefore you are the legal owner of said car. You just fill that form out and take with you to the junkyard w/ a copy of your license and they should accept it as proof of ownership.

Where are you located exactly and what kind of car is it? I can arrange for removal if you need it done, just PM me.

We settled up with the junkyard. That’s probably all I should say on a public internet forum.
