# Just another wheel lock thread..

Just bout a car that came with decent Motegi rims and has locking wheel nuts. Problem is there was no key that came with it and none of the ones online I’m looking at are similar. If you look at the pic, you will see that the pattern is nonuniform. Does the socket+JB weld+ grease method really work? I bought one of those locking nut extractors but its just too thick. I don’t want to screw up the rims.

ive hammered a socket on a wheel lock before when i bought a car that didnt come with a key
worked for me

Any possibility of taking a screwdriver and putting it into the keyed shaped part of the lug at an angle and tapping it with a hammer to break it loose? Overtighten the other lugs first to take a bit of pressure off of this one maybe…
Edit: is that an OEM lug key? as the other lugs don’t look like anything special?

get some putty and take a mold of it and stop at McGard, they can usually match it up…since it looks like a McGard style wheel lock

Was about to recommend the same thing. When I was trying to get them off of the mustang I did some googling and saw they were local and very helpful.

I’d probably try and drill the stud if I didn’t want to hurt the wheel and I couldn’t pound on a socket or get at it with an air hammer to back it out. You might be able to weld a nut on it if you have just enough room to work. I personally would try an air hammer

I think I mentioned in the title post that it was a Motegi rim and this would be some sort of universal lug nut with locking nut for it. As you can see in the image, there isn’t much clearance between the nut and the groove in the rim. I’ll try a few things mentioned here, but I looked at McGard before posting and couldn’t find a matching one. The putty method seems like a very good idea, thanks.

Socket extractors come in multiple sizes. Get the right size and done. They make thin wall ones. Work so well.
