> I think you need to play the situation carefully. At the end if the day, you paid for pictures and that’s what you want out if the deal. I used to be heavy into photography, and there’s a reason I never got into weddings. There is not enough money in the world to pay me to do a wedding. If you decide to get aggressive threatening to sue, etc, there’s a good chance there will be a “computer error” and your pictures will be gone forever. Start off being nice/understanding. Don’t make threats until you have a product.
>
> To the people who gawk at the cost of wedding photos-- have you bought camera equipment lately? A REAL professional photog probably has 20k worth of gear (I know I did- my 2 bodies alone cost 6k). High end computers for editing. Software costs. The time you spend doesn’t start when you arrive and you hand over a completed product at the end of the wedding. There are hours and hours of editing that are needed. Uploading and managing the online galleries. Chasing bridezillas around is a job in itself.
>
> Most people don’t gawk at paying 60+ dollars an hour to pay a grease monkey to change their brakes (anyone can be taught to change brakes)-- you cant teach an “eye” for a good photo. Also, id be willing to bet that the final breakdown of hours spent on each client at a wedding comes out to way less than 60/hr.
>
> Here’s food for thought. Let’s say, using conservative numbers, that you spend 10 hours shooting at a wedding and only 10 hours total doing other things. That’s 100/hr if you paid 2k. Anyone who has had their car tuned at innovative pays more than that for “just pushing some buttons on the computer”. Specialized skills cost money.

I agree, I envy nobody in the wedding business. It’s usually the biggest day in your life and if a photographer, planner, bakery, w/e fucks it up…The couple is going to be pissed beyond belief. Especially considering the amount of money being thrown at weddings (ask me how I know). I’m not sure how people pay $6000 for wedding photos but that seems ridiculous. A lot of poeple, mainly the women, get into a “one-upping” contest and want to brag/complain about how much they’re spending. A lot of times you can pay a photographer $2,000 rather than $6,000 and get better pictures.

I attended a wedding for my fiancee’s cousin. The photographer they got used an entry level DSLR. This was pointed out by my brother-in-law who is a professional photographer and videographer for the news station out in Albany. Come to think of it, I don’t think I’ve ever seen their wedding photos.

It is stupid how much unnecessary money goes into weddings. If you shop around, and sometimes do things yourself, you can save a lot of coin.

:word: I just spent around $2500 for 2 photographers that spent all day shooting at my wedding

Everything turned out great

Considering the cost of everything else related to a wedding the price of pictures isn’t that bad to capture everything.

I can’t imagine any professional showing up without enough batteries to make it through the contracted time. Or a professional putting in writing that they would have an assistant there and then showing up alone. Unfortunately because it sounds like you’re not dealing with a professional my guess is you won’t have much luck getting a partial credit and still getting your photos. This is why getting recommendations is so important.

Also, not a shock to Krant says “so what if you paid her for for 8.5 hours (really 17 hours since she was supposed to have an assistant) and she only worked 6, fuck you for wanting what you paid for”. That’s apparently is his idea of good enough customer service.

My wife and I spent a little over 4k which included an awesome wedding album, engagement shoot (including a picture for everyone to sign), all wedding pictures, trash the dress shoot, etc. Got my pictures done by Saks.

On the side note, women love pictures and video of their wedding, trying to cheap out on the physical memories (pictures and video) will make an angry future wife.

My fiancee and I couldn’t care less about video taping the ceremony/reception. Neither of us would watch it again. Also we really don’t want the stereotypical pictures that everyone gets at their weddings, with the unoriginal poses, and all that bullshit. The price you listed above seems very reasonable for the 3? shoots you did and everything included. If people want to save money they can try going to bridal shows where they have chances to win 50% off or different packages. Only reason I know is because my cousin won one for 50% off and it was still like 5,000.

meh, finding competent vendors isn’t hard. If you’re going for the cheapest, or just picking names at random, you’re bound to get screwed. Check with other couples, check online, check facebook (vendor pages), etc. I’d be more than happy to divulge any information about our wedding planning so far, results I can give after October 13th.

What I was getting at was if she got all the “important” shots, the church and all that stuff and left early before it was just a bunch of drunken shennanigans, who cares?

While this is true, it’s not what the contract stated. Why bother even having one if she’s not going to honor it?

I really liked some of the later shots from our wedding because it showed some of our more uptight relatives boozed up, guard down and actually having a good time.

Regardless of the quality of shots there was a contract for pictures from X to Y and she didn’t live up to it. The excuse of “well my battery ran out” isn’t acceptable from a professional photographer.

The photos after people are boozed up and guard is down would make for the best photos I suspect.
Never the less…a contract is a contract. Who does the photog think they are, the government? LOL

man that blows, sorry to hear. There really isn’t anything they can do to compensate you for missing out on the rest of that day. The photographer should have drove home or to a friend’s house of something to find another battery and come back to save face. To me, this was seriously the most important part of the wedding. I look back at the pictures frequently for the memories, as well as have some PHENOMENAL once in a lifetime portraits of my wife and me.

We paid over 3k for ours, but we also had them travel 4 hours, shoot our rehearsal, photo-booth and day-after pictures. Basic packages for a GOOD photographer should be around 2k, give or take.

Ugh, that was one EXPENSIVE day. Wouldn’t trade it for the world, though.

At my wedding everyone got wasted and jumped in the pool, my groomsmen and I in our suits. I’m glad the photographers stayed, because they took some really awesome shots. Then I accidently sprayed the photographer in the face with a bottle of champagne

I dislike photographers. The most important thing for you to remember is that you have little to no rights to the images captured on your special day.
You should hold them to the contract the best you can with the idea that you can in relation to what photos were promised. They will surely hold you to the terms if you want extra
shots that are outside the contract.

If the lady is reputable, they will most assuredly work with you. Word of mouth is the best advertising.
If not a discount, you could get other services.

+1 for the photo booth. I was at a wedding Saturday and it was a pretty big hit. Especially when there is a scotch bar.
