I’m just tired from a long day of work. This happened very regularly at my restaurant. They always/mostly wait til 9:30pm to come in to eat. We closed at 10pm on weekdays. Also they usually go in a group of 4 to 6 people and ordered like 2 dishes for a group of 4-5 people and maybe 3 dishes for 6 people? They asked for tons of sauce and this…that…etc. Then after everything is done…they barely tip you LOL. Sorry need to vent. ---

If they’re part of an extended family, they may not want to disturb people by coming home late, so they may eat out and then go home. And women, who have less time to cook due to longer working hours. Eating habits are different in many ways to other communities across the world. Firstly they are many regional variations – so almost no two states in India have similar foods. The other thing is they have at least three cooked meals a day and there are at least two occasions for snacking. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are cooked meals in India and usually served hot. The first of the two snacking habits that are fairly common is around 10.30-11 am with a cup of tea. Even today, many offices still serve some kind of snack with that. And then at 4.30-5pm, even if you get home at 6, you want to have a cup of tea with something to eat. So many restaurants – even the fast food ones – have a menu which has both complete meal options alongside finger foods and snack foods. In countries like US, paying tips are more of a rule. In India, if you pay tips, you are considered generous. There is no rule that you have to pay tips…mebbe that’s why they don’t think it is necessary to tip. 99.99 % of hotels in India don’t expect tips. ---
