I know they’re rare, but I haven’t heard they were completely gone. You still see sightings for them. Just a quick google search found this one from August 09 [Mountain Lions Are Back in Vermont! - Fodor's Travel Talk Forums](http://www.fodors.com/community/united-states/mountain-lions-are-back-in-vermont.cfm)

I guess I just don’t believe they’re **extinct**.
