Well it’s time to get rid of things,
I’m making some changes to the DSM, mainly going to Speed Density and a T3 Holset HX35. While I’m not driving the car I might also change the motor out, powder coat suspension and brake parts, clean the interior out and remove unnecessary wires and random components that I don’t need. Then do some bodywork and maybe repaint the outside mitsu-black. Etc, car might not be on the road this year.

Starting with the GM Maf and MAFT, I had the MAFT behind the dash in between the consol. The wires were run through the firewall and out to the engine bay to keep the elements off of the translator.

![http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t48/my1stpeanut/2g%20awd%20build/rodsandpistons2010058.jpg](http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t48/my1stpeanut/2g%20awd%20build/rodsandpistons2010058.jpg)

I’m got a long section of coupler I plan on putting in place of where the GM maf sat, I have had a translator and GM maf for years so it will take a little getting used to not seeing one under the hood.

Looking at it there is a lot to tidy up now that this is not a D.D.
 ![http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t48/my1stpeanut/2g%20awd%20build/rodsandpistons2010056.jpg](http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t48/my1stpeanut/2g%20awd%20build/rodsandpistons2010056.jpg)

Labeled and ready for someone else to use, wires are marked so that they can be fed through the firewall and reconnected on the other side, just as I had it in my car.

_Don’t ask about buying it, it has already been sold and shipped out._

![http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t48/my1stpeanut/2g%20awd%20build/rodsandpistons2010055.jpg](http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t48/my1stpeanut/2g%20awd%20build/rodsandpistons2010055.jpg)

Maybe sometime during the week I’ll get a S.S. bung welding in my UICP for the IAT sensor, I already have a GM 3bar map sensor.

Going with EVO brakes. They will be mounted on spoolin69’s zinc-plated 1g/2g caliper adaptor brackets.

 ![http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t48/my1stpeanut/dsm2011/evobrakesmsa019.jpg](http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t48/my1stpeanut/dsm2011/evobrakesmsa019.jpg)

Shane’s kit came with all this, bolts and all.

 ![http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t48/my1stpeanut/dsm2011/evobrakesmsa018.jpg](http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t48/my1stpeanut/dsm2011/evobrakesmsa018.jpg)

This is what normally holds the stock caliper to the knuckle on a single side.

 ![http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t48/my1stpeanut/dsm2011/evobrakesmsa023.jpg](http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t48/my1stpeanut/dsm2011/evobrakesmsa023.jpg)

This is what replaces those two bolts in Shane’s “kit” and holds the evo caliper to the knuckel.

 ![http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t48/my1stpeanut/dsm2011/evobrakesmsa024.jpg](http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t48/my1stpeanut/dsm2011/evobrakesmsa024.jpg)

The calipers need clearanced, an existing hole needs tapped, and because I’m a '97 I need to grind the knuckle down some near the lower ball joints. If I had a 90-94 or a 95-96 I wouldn’t need to grind anything off of the knuckle. But I’ll explain all that later.

The zinc-plated, laser cut steel is STRONG, not sure what grade of hardened steel it is exactly, I’m sure Shane will chime in with that but all the bolts are a high grade.

So after sitting outside for over a year, the Talon finally got pulled out of the elements and into its new home. I have to remove the critters that call it home, replace the parts that were sold off the once running car when times got tough. No ETA when it will return to running status, although I was eyeing up some nice aluminum jack stands from HF.

It got trashed from sitting outside for so long.

What I have on my hands now it my very own **“Barn Find”**.

 ![http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t48/my1stpeanut/Dsm%202012/100MEDIAIMAG0302.jpg](http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t48/my1stpeanut/Dsm%202012/100MEDIAIMAG0302.jpg)
 ![http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t48/my1stpeanut/Dsm%202012/100MEDIAIMAG0298.jpg](http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t48/my1stpeanut/Dsm%202012/100MEDIAIMAG0298.jpg)
 ![http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t48/my1stpeanut/Dsm%202012/100MEDIAIMAG0303.jpg](http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t48/my1stpeanut/Dsm%202012/100MEDIAIMAG0303.jpg)
Interior is worse than the outside.

Lesson: Don’t just park your car, come back years later and expect it to be ok.

I decided that I’m going to set aside time on Sundays for working on the Talon, so we’ll see if I can awake her from her slumber.

1st thing to address is that I can’t even get into the car because both the door handles are broken off! To fix that I got the door handles removed, the one bolt is a PAIN when it’s rusted solid. Ordered the [Rcaz metal inserts](http://rcaz.com/default_automotive.htm) and got to work. ROOK hooked me up with some good 2g handles that were already black.

[![http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t48/my1stpeanut/DSM%202013/downsized_0412130903a_zpsf42dfe5c.jpg](http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t48/my1stpeanut/DSM%202013/downsized_0412130903a_zpsf42dfe5c.jpg)](http://s157.photobucket.com/user/my1stpeanut/media/DSM%202013/downsized_0412130903a_zpsf42dfe5c.jpg.html)

The Rcaz site has the “how to” on the fix so no need for tons of detail. Basically remove pins, band saw, and epoxy, install inserts then re-pin.

Not real sure what this picture shows but here it is. I have to get back into the swing of build thread picture documentation.

[![http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t48/my1stpeanut/DSM%202013/0412130908_zpsc994e1cd.jpg](http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t48/my1stpeanut/DSM%202013/0412130908_zpsc994e1cd.jpg)](http://s157.photobucket.com/user/my1stpeanut/media/DSM%202013/0412130908_zpsc994e1cd.jpg.html)

Next problem I guess is that I sold off the GM MAF and translator, so I have to set up speed density before attempting to start the car. Since I won’t need the meth port on my TB elbow (mild steel welded into stainless piping) for some time, it seemed like that spot was going to be best for my IAT sensor install. So I’m going to be drilling that out an welding in the new S.S. bung.

[![http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t48/my1stpeanut/DSM%202013/0412131444_zps1e4f9450.jpg](http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t48/my1stpeanut/DSM%202013/0412131444_zps1e4f9450.jpg)](http://s157.photobucket.com/user/my1stpeanut/media/DSM%202013/0412131444_zps1e4f9450.jpg.html)

Just finished up modifying the door handles, they turned out great. The seem really sturdy I shouldn’t have a problem with them breaking once I have everything adjusted correctly.

[![http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t48/my1stpeanut/DSM%202013/0417131924_zps4de1b22b.jpg](http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t48/my1stpeanut/DSM%202013/0417131924_zps4de1b22b.jpg)](http://s157.photobucket.com/user/my1stpeanut/media/DSM%202013/0417131924_zps4de1b22b.jpg.html)

And got my hole drilled for the AIT sensor in my UICP. I’ll just have to get that welded.
I hope I do a nice job on it, even though I’ll be powder coating all the piping in the end.

[![http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t48/my1stpeanut/DSM%202013/0417131926_zpsab39426d.jpg](http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t48/my1stpeanut/DSM%202013/0417131926_zpsab39426d.jpg)](http://s157.photobucket.com/user/my1stpeanut/media/DSM%202013/0417131926_zpsab39426d.jpg.html)

Well I had the welder out today so I decided to weld up the Stainless Steel AIT sensor bung in the UICP.

I haven’t welded any stainless is some time and was REALLY nervous about messing up.

Clamped it.
[![http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t48/my1stpeanut/DSM%202013/0420131219_zpsd0912238.jpg](http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t48/my1stpeanut/DSM%202013/0420131219_zpsd0912238.jpg)](http://s157.photobucket.com/user/my1stpeanut/media/DSM%202013/0420131219_zpsd0912238.jpg.html)

Tacked it.
[![http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t48/my1stpeanut/DSM%202013/0420131222_zps096730fd.jpg](http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t48/my1stpeanut/DSM%202013/0420131222_zps096730fd.jpg)](http://s157.photobucket.com/user/my1stpeanut/media/DSM%202013/0420131222_zps096730fd.jpg.html)

And worked my way around slowly trying to let cool in-between.
[![http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t48/my1stpeanut/DSM%202013/0420131227_zps41bc0707.jpg](http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t48/my1stpeanut/DSM%202013/0420131227_zps41bc0707.jpg)](http://s157.photobucket.com/user/my1stpeanut/media/DSM%202013/0420131227_zps41bc0707.jpg.html)

Finished. Its not perfect, but its hard to compare with the absolutely flawless welds Slowboy did when making the rest of the intercooler piping. I’m happy with my work.

I thought it looked familiar. I was never really active over there. Just came on a bit because shott17 used to talk about it all the time. Usually just read stuff and never really posted.

About time we get another DSM guy on here. I was getting lonely.

Mr2 is my brothers, and yes he still has it.
Fresh build with wiseco, arp etc on a Gen 3 motor swapped into a 91 mr2 turbo. PTE 50trim t3 turbo, tial 38mm open dump wastegate, walbro fuel pump “stock 3rd gen” ecu, injectors and map sensor. We are limited to ~16psi and made 279whp and 253ft/lbs of torque.

[![](https://canada1.discourse-cdn.com/flex034/uploads/speedlife/original/3X/3/f/3fa0f9cf6e3a6899ec7f18afd298b8a8f77cf79e.jpeg "Mr2 50trim 16psi on the Dyno") ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0gq0izsXAxo)

I think jeff @ first try is doing the water to air intercooler. AEM ems and his injectors should be here soon so it can get back on the dyno and make some real #'s now that the motor is broke in.
Little upgrades are made to it from time to time.

Don’t have any other pics of it right now.

You wont get lonely, I’m not going to bail on my talon… I’ve already come to my senses…I’m just to deep in it now to jump DSM ship. I’m too old to learn new tricks and already know dsm’s so…

Shott17, Matt is a nice guy “in real life” I stopped over his house and bought the block that I’m building now along with some other dsm odds and ends.

Matt is a good dude. He’d give you the big sweaty shirt off his back if you needed it. Definitely a good friend to have.

And I’m in the same boat. 16 year old DSM isn’t really impressing many people these days but you know what, when it runs, I love it. For all the money I’ve put in mine over the years, I could own a real nice car. Oh well. Part of being an enthusiast I guess!

I don’t know what my turbo is going to be!

I have a pristine HX35 with BEP t3 housing sitting on the passenger seat.
I also have a 14b with 7cm evo 3 turbine housing.
I have the money for a 3076 T3 which is the turbo I think I want.

I used to like drag racing, but the people suck.
So while my Talon was parked I got into auto X with my Honda and **loved** the skill of that type of driving.
pics of Honda.

Honda is sold.
So change of plan. My plans are now to make my talon turn well and spool quickly? Goal 400-450hp. Not sure how this is going to work out, because I just came up with this like 30 min ago.

Speaking up jackstands, HF has some aluminum ones I’d like to powdercoat to match my Talon.

Cleaned the mouse shit out, they must have thought my glove box was a love nest.

And got power to the old girl. I can’t remember but I think I have V3 in the ECU, if not I’ll have to look for the chip and package.
