I fail to see why what fat stupid Teddy did in '69 is irrelevant. In '69 he was 37yo and had been in the Senate for seven years. Old enough and experienced enough to handle the incident differently if he were not very guilty of something, or something(s). The general consensus (except among those who feel that as a Kennedy he can do no wrong) is that he was “having an affair” (i.e. screwing) Mary Joe, was drunk, drove off the bridge and then tried (successfully) to cover it up. Kennedy drove away with party guest Mary Jo Kopechne as a passenger in his 1967 Oldsmobile Delmont 88. According to Kennedy, he made a wrong turn onto an unlit road that led to Dike Bridge (also spelled Dyke Bridge), a wooden bridge angled obliquely to the road with no guardrail, and drove over its side. The car plunged into tide-swept Poucha Pond (at that location a channel) and came to rest upside down underwater. Kennedy was able to swim free of the vehicle, but passenger Kopechne was not. By his own account, he swam down trying to reach her several times before walking back to the house for help. Kennedy discussed the accident with several people, including his lawyer and Kopechne’s parents, before he contacted the police more than 10 hours after the accident. The incident quickly became a scandal. Kennedy was criticized for allegedly driving drunk, for failing to save Kopechne, for failing to summon help immediately, and for contacting not the police but rather his lawyer first. Kennedy entered a plea of guilty to a charge of leaving the scene of an accident after causing injury. He received a sentence of two months in jail, which was suspended. ---

It had to do with me learning something about Teddy I didn’t know. I learned about it through the first [cnn.com](http://cnn.com) link I posted, but I also posted another link providing many more details. ---

The CNN link you posted was a CT congressman using it to divert attention away from his role in the Foley scandel. I’d say that’s something to do with current politics. ---

Yes, but THE SUBJECT OF THIS THREAD has nothing to do with it. I only posted that cnn article because that was where **I** first learned about the Kennedy thing, after I guess living under a rock the first 29 years of my life.
