I recently bought a c5 corvette that has a 3-4 grind at higher RPM; the car is totally driveable in every way, but it is prevalent enough to annoy me. Of course the previous owner did not disclose this, and shame on me for not identifying it before handing over the cash, but I guess it is to be expected when buying higher mileage, 14 year old cars. Anyway, I’m looking for recommendations on local shops. I searched around on ls1tech and corvetteforum, but not really seeing anything local to this area. I’m sure many of you have experience, so just looking for a few starting points. ---

Reasonable prices and very good track record, but the removal / shipment / re-install process is a pain. It’s hard to believe there is nobody reputable locally with all the amount of modified lsx cars in the area. ---

I wholeheartedly recommend Texas Drivetrain. I used them about a year ago for my rebuild and was very pleased with their pricing and especially results. They are literally a one stop shop. Regardless of whether you have it rebuilt locally or out of state I assume you’d be pulling the trans and reinstalling it yourself anyways, so the only inconvenience is packaging it, and the cost of shipping (about $200 round trip). To me, paying the shipping and having to box it up was worth it as I had my trans back in under 2 weeks. Jason is a knowledgeable guy and although he sometimes is tough to get a hold of due to the volume of customers he has, he always made sure to call me back and answer all my dumbass questions. If you don’t do something stupid like use solid motor mounts T56 removal is pretty easy ---

I’m having the same problem with my 1-2 syncro on the T56 in the GTO. Since I can’t have my daily down for 2+ weeks I’ll be taking it to Continental in West Seneca when I eventually deal with it. I’ve had a few people recommend them for general transmission work (though not specifically for the T56). Replacing syncro’s isn’t rocket science if you’re familiar with working on transmissions though. ---

You don’t really race/mod your car if it was purely a synrco thing I would have taken the same route and gone to whatever local transmission shop I was comfortable with. ---

TDP and Tick Performance are both reputable places; I’m going to be going with a TR6060 from Tick in my Bird.
