I have a 03 dodge ram 2500 with the cummins diesel in it.

As of right now, it has a open rear diff. which, with the banks six gun, the truck pulls one wheel peels like you wouldn’t believe.

where should I call to get a limited slip installed. either a limited slip or a locker. I want something very aggresive.

I called jiim deans and they don’t do rear end work.

any suggestions?

Competition Transmission in North Tonawanda. They did a great job replacing the clutch packs in the rear diff of my Expedition and were recommended by a regular autocrosser who owns his own shop (Mr Goodwrench on GI). He was originally going to do the work himself but needed some special tools, so he outsourced it to them.

[/quote]

thats wrong too. a “posi” just developed as short for positive traction which was fully locked all the time. limited slip does like its name implies, acts like an open diff until you get a big speed delta between sides and then limits slip by “locking” the two axles together via a clutch pack, gears, etc.

Wow, you’re screwed up as well…

Limited Slip = Posi!!!; Posi was a term developed by GM as a marketing thing, it’s the same technology. They both use some sort of friction surface or material (Clutch packs or cones)to make both axles “stick” together and rotate the same, but still allow for them to rotate at different rates by slipping (Thus, limited slip)

Lockers are totally different; they use some method of locking splines together and releasing them, either by spring pressure (pre-set units), or air (Remote locking units)

And then there’s Torsen diff’s as well which use gears to control the delta in axle speeds; typically used in road-racing.

Neither act like an “open” diff when going in a straight line; they act similar to an open diff when going around corners.

yea but a LOCKER makes it so the 2 axles are LOCKED together the whole time weather you’re going straight, turning or standing still. Then there are selectable lockers ( ARB,OX, ECTED) which can be open diff one minute and a locked the next via some sort or selector (air, cable or electronic)

 Exactly right.

And you don’t want a locker unless you’re doing serious off roading. A good posi/limited slip will work much better on the street.

The air lockers are cool if you’re looking to do some off roading but still keep it nice on the street.

Putting a non-remote locker in (Detroit Locker) is pretty extreme and they are not only NOISY when they unlock, but violent as well; I’ve driven cars with DL’s in them and it’s a almost as bad as driving with a spool just more “BANG BANG” as the face gears lock and unlock.

Limited slip even for everyday driving is not a bad thing, and I’d invest in one as well with a truck. Hell, my '98 Blazer has one in it so I’m kinda surprised that your 2500 doesn’t.

Did I say that?

It will help a lot in the winter…

also it gets quite annoying spinning the inside tire anytime I try and take off fast around a corner

Uh, yeah it would. I had an open diff ranger and it was useless. I’d much rather fishtail and have forward momentum than go nowhere because my one wheel with the least traction is spinning.

A LSD/Posi would help in the snow, a locker will not, it will probably cause worse situations especially with the non smooth loading and unloading of the axels.

EDIT: Fixed my post to better represent what I ment

ok, in the ranger, but my f350 never, never had a problem. plowing, driving, and it was on the dyno at ~750 ft-lb (not a butt dyno). if he is having a problem with the wheels spinning, and not getting the MPG’s he wants, he should not press the skinny little pedal as hard. a locker is not going to cure is problem… the only thing that will cure this problem is the thing that applies the input.
