# looking for the name of a late 80's-early 90's sitcom

I thought the name of it was rock live or something, but can’t find any info through google or IMBD.
All that I can remember was that the main character was an African American guy living in NYC with his family. There was also a big deal made about it because it was broadcast live.
anyone know what the hell I’m talking about? Just asked like 10 co-workers and they all looked at me like I was nuts
