but anyways, back on topic One actual serious question i have is when were the ls1’s put into production? For a build on a first gen s-10 chassis ive always figured id go with a 383 built with a carb and ditch the whole tuned port setup. Now, are the 4.8’s and the 5.3’s in the silverados considered LS1s? i know they can be had for about the same amount of money as a junkyard LT1, but maybe keeping the fuel injection setup wouldnt be all that bad… ---

Those 5.3s and 4.3s are all GEN III GM engines so yes. ---

The 5.7 LS1 began in vettes in 97 and fbods in 98. 4.8, 5.3 and 6.0 were the truck versions (techinically lq4, lq9 etc) beginning in 99 (although they also still made gen1 sbcs in trucks at the same time for 99 and 00). The LS2 in GTOs and vettes are also 6.0. They have a 6.2 coming out in new stuff, and the 7.0 is the LS7 in the newest vette z06. 98 Fbod computers were different than 99+ versions. 97-98 rod bolts are said to be the weakest, and I can attest to that. 97-98 also had different oil passages. LS6 blocks have the same bore/stroke as LS1s but were said to be stronger and came with better heads. LS6s came in Z06 vettes and later were mixed into production on Fbods but without the LS6 heads. LT1s were 92-96 in vettes and 93-97 in fbods. There were also LT1s and baby LT1s available in caprices & roadmasters 93-95. There are 2 different opti styles, and 3 different front covers. The balancers and accessories are mounted diff. between the different cars it came with. 95+ have stronger, powdered metal rods. 93 fbod computers are different than 94+. Fuel injection FTW in a DD.
