We had this project in my structures class in which we had to make a bridge. The paramaters were only material 1/16"x1/16", no linear materials. Had to span 24 inches, and couldnt attach to anything. Were hanging bricks from them, whoever made the strongest bridge = the win
So i made this bridge. Its rather strong, should fare well…
Now heres where the :snky: comes in. Flex in a bridge is usually good, but in this case, rigidity = the win. So my friend vic sprayed the whole bridge with fiberglass resin. The balsa absorbed it, and that fucker is solid, like you can stand on it.
I just thought id share my :snky: creativity…

edit: one primary advantage is that we couldnt attach members in a linear manner, only end to end. This should strengthen those joints quite a bit…

thats cool, good design…i won one of those contests, except it was in 5th grade and it was special interest class(smart kid class). except we were given a budget, supplies(toothpicks+glue/other miscellaneus stuff) cost money. i was the foreman of my group. our bridge held 31/5 bricks. which is still the record(most avg. between 1.5-2)…i was happy. it looked similar to that, except less toothpicks and more compact.

nah were in crosby, our shop is in parker though…
im not sure if i won, i didnt stay for the whole thing. I kinda doubt it did tho. One bridge held 2x as much as mine, but it was made of steel and weighed 4x as much. Weight is factored into the contest, so mine still may be the best…

you could use a stronger lightweight material like alum for the bridge, so it has the weight of wood and a bit less strength than steel, or you could be a baller and use some high strength shit.
you could have made a bilit bridge but that would have costs thousands rofl
