they got off light. Tourists get instructions on what is allowed and what is not as well as some leeway when they don’t follow the strict conservative laws.
They had even been warned before:

But you’d be arrested fined for that ANYWHERE. :shrug:
And, see, thats just it… your megabucks \< their megabucks.
Talk to Jay Wonch who once told me that a continental beakfast was $90.
Its almost as if they superovercharge / spend on everything simply because they can.

I’ve been to Dubai! Its awesome, still in the process of develping, they don’t hate us. I went as a backpacker, and met so many nice people that wanted to sit down and talk about the world. I did not feel threatened at all. I would walk around at night by myself, and felt safer than at night in Barcelona. The infrastructure is mediocre right now, the roads are in decent condition but there is sooo much traffic. They are working on a light rail system. Everywhere you look a skyscrapper is going up. Very impressive, will definatly be back in 5 years to see how its doing. I think there will end up being more skyskrapers than NYC. Glad to see somewhere in the world is making some huge progress.
