# Minor rust on Strut tower

Hey guys I have some surface rust on my strut tower the size is 1inch by .5inch, whats the best way of fixing this rust?Its basically bubbling and starting to chip in the area.
This is the pic, sorry its kinda hard to see.

not everyone has a sandblaster available, a wire brush might be enough if not a grinder will work, dont over do it tough, then some paint.

well i guess i just assume most ppl have access to an air compressor. is they dont, then that sucks. Invest in a small air compressor for u car its key! but anyways a sandblasting kit is less than 20dollars and sand is only 10 bucks a bag. A wise investment if u plan on keeping the 240 for a while, it atleast gets rid of the rust…

believe me or not, my grandfather once told me that you rub some old engine oil where the rust is
i had a 94 altima with rust on strut towers, both sides…and i rubbed some oil on it, (had some oil in a container from the last time i did an oil change) and within 2 to 3 months later i saw that it looked like it ‘died’ the rust wasnt spreading. and up untill 4 months ago before i sold the altima, it stayed the same, i could have seen where i put the oil, the rust turned like a ‘black spot’ its hard to describe how it looked like but it works!

Thanks guys today I went out and wire brushed it but it turns out when i wire brushed it, it made a hole so i put some rust remover/preventer. What should I do now though is it possible to get that rust cut out and put in a new sheet of metal?
The price of fixing this is not a problem for me I just need to get it fixed let me know if you know of a place that can fix this for me or if you yourself can do it for me.

sure its possible, just cut around the rust its easier for you if you make a nice straight cut, then just get new sheet metal and cut a piece to fit into the area you just cut, then just weld the two together, and paint it.
Any bodyshop wont have problems with it, since money isnt the issue then just take it to the closest place newr your house.

ur grandfathers right. Thats why they have undercoatings for cars. If water cant get to metal, then it cant be oxidized. When you put the oil onto the rust it prevented water from getting to it, thus preventing it from rusting untill the oil has evaporated, or just been washed away after a while.

The rust on my strut towers looks exactly the same. I’ll be grinding/cuting mine and welding new metal in, it’s the only correct way to do it. Might as well stich-weld the towers while you are at it 😃
