so i’ve spent the past 3 days in my garage gently tapping away at the crank angle sensor on my skyline rb20 to get the cam gear cover off, so i can determine the life on my timing belt. ive never been so patient in my life, all 3 bolts came off easily but i think the aluminum oxidized and ceased the sensor right in there. no worries, i let it swim in WD40 for a few minutes and gave it a few love taps… off she came (only to show me that if i take the car around the block one more time the timing belt will probably snap off and slap me in the face.) i guess thats what happens at 143,000 km, haha oh well. all i need now is a paintjob, a corner signal lens, some rims, a timing belt, and some money to do all of that or else ill be staring at it for quite a while. i openly admit that i am a noob and a half, but i would like to do the timing belt myself to save some $$$. my girlfriend keeps asking when im gonna put this bad boy on the road lmao. any tips and suggestions would be greatly appreciated guyss, i work hard, im determined to learn and i wanna show for it with this car… thanks alot take care and merry christmas guys. drive safe

I’ve been doing the timing belt on my CA18DET for a while… I just haven’t had time to pop it back on and bolt everything up…
Replace your water pump, if you don’t the water pump will likely fail shortly after your get it back on the road.
- Buy an OE Nissan pump, it’s worth it, the aftermarket pumps are inferior to OE.
You’ll need RTV gasket sealer, socket set, impact wrench (for getting the crank pully off), etc.
Set the crank to TDC, then mark the timing marks on each cam gear and crank so that it is clearly visible.
This helped me with the work on my CA as I’m confident that everything will be put back together with ease.

hey roast thanks alot i really appreciate it. i guess this project is going to begin somtimes soon… just one more question, aside from all that work, what would i need to remove to access the belt and make work easier (its a 92 skyline gtst)

I haven’t worked on any RB series motors. CA is the RB’s little brother however it’s no base for proper guidance.
I removed my radiator and SMIC IC pipes, this gave me ample room to do the job with the car on jack stands.

There’s a plastic tab on the bottom right hand side of my radiator. I turned the tab (had two wings like a wing nut) and drained the radiator into a pale and then transferred it to old windshield washer buckets…
I have new anti-freeze read to go when i’m done putting everything back together.

too bad i dont have a pulley puller, or know how to take out the rad lmao project put on hold for now.☹
