I thought there was already a FAQ section, no, well, I already made this one so…

In this region of NY there are more than enough outlets to excersize your car in a safe, controlled manner. I have been actively involved in autocross for the last four years, and been doing open track and road racing for the past two. The whole time I had wished I knew about it sooner. Hopefully I can bring that “sooner” to you.

**First thing you should know is that you can do drag racing, autocross, rallycross, open track lapping, and even time trials in a stock, unmodified vehicle.** And yes, it is fun even if you have a 100hp automatic car. It is also affordable, $25 for autocross, $50 for a 1/2 day to $120 for a full day of lapping. Don't be intimidated, all off us had our first time once in our lives. Always ask questions, there are people that will go out of their way to help you.

Nissan Performance Magazine has been doing this article for a while now. It follows this chick as she goes through the ins and outs of drag racing, autocross, club racing, getting licensed, driving schools, ect. ect.

**But search through ALL the articles, there are some good points in each (some a little n00bish)…**

My quick, quick tips for auto-x…

> [@sr20de](#):
>
> **The novice school + event 1 (2 days total) is the best ~$40ish you’ll ever spend in your life.**
>
> - Check you oil level before you go :ham:
>
> - Remove all garbage, loose items, floor mats before showing up. Remove spare tire when you get there.
>
> - Make sure you battery tie down is installed and properly tightened.
>
> - Stop at the gas station before and put your tires up to ~45 psi each, if it is too high you can always work your way back down. Check tire pressure before every run, tire pressure and it’s effect is huge on the behavior of the car. Don’t be afraid to play around with pressures after you get a feel for the course.
>
> - Get there @ 7:30-8:00 am, walk the course once, pay registration @ 8:30, walk the course again, get the car teched, walk the course again. Do the novice walk through.
>
> - Have an instructor sit with you ever run for your first couple events because even if you don’t think you need it they will always give you great insight.
>
> 2nd gear is your friend. A short shift into second off the line is sometimes a good thing. Even if you get stuck at the bottom of 2nd at times it will be better than trying to get back down to first, and the balance of the car will be better as engine braking in 1st gear can really upset the car.

My quick, quick, quick track tip…

> [@sr20de](#):
>
> **Brakes, brakes, brakes.** This is the only _must do_ performance wise. Good high performance pads, high temp fluid, and a recent fluid change. Buy some extra pads to bring with you and you can return them if you don’t need them. Buy track purpose pads. Just do something……

Go do them all.

I’ve found that Auto-X made me a much better, and also much more cautious driver on the street. I am able to react to situations with more confidence and precision because of an increased feel of the car.

Drag at the track is a good way to spend a night with friends. The drive out is fun, and sure beats getting a ticket and sitting in some sweaty ass court for a bunch of hours.
