So I was just driving around normal on Sunday doing a photo shoot and I noticed the turbo was sounding like ass. If I would build boost I would almost stall out after he BOV opened. I thought I was something simple like a boost leak. So I was going to do a boost leak test. I pulled off my filter and started the car just to make sure the turbine was still spinning.

So I start the car and I see the wheel pin and I’m like yea. But like 3 sec later it stops spinning. I’m like WTF. So It doesn’t spin unless you really rev it. I checked the oil feed line and it works. So I started disassembling it to see what’s up.

Any Ideas?

My guess is the turbo spun a bearing, When it heats up puts pressure on the shaft not alowing oil into the races, and presto instant temporary weld, But the again i’m i supercharger guy, Ive had that symptom on an ATV bearing, (Non Ball Bearing) When the wheel got hot it stopped turning, When i cooled it turned fine?? also had that happen on a refrigerator compressor, just rplaced the bearings.

Frustrating as all hell.

There isn’t enough exhaust gas going through a turbine to spin it at idle. Even when you rev it the amount of exhaust gas going through the turbine is minimal compared to full load. If the turbo shaft dose not have any axial movement your are good. Radial movement is acceptable as long as the wheel (hot and cold side) don’t touch the housings. When oil pressure is applied radial load dissapears and the shaf floats.

Really? Look at pics :biggrinjester: Name brand. I have the whole thing off and it looks like maybe I had an exhaust leak. Like bad. Now my question is where can I get better bolts and nuts that won’t back out?

Also I think I’m going to recirc on my Wastegate. I grow wary of the loudness and CO2 I get every time I jump on it.

P.s. do they make BB ebay turbos

The temperatures are way too high for loctite application. I have seen my EGT’s get to 1500 deg. F. Just torque them down better and use high temp. Torque the bolts down better and use some RTV between the exhaust flange and turbo flange. Something like this: [http://ziptie007.phpwebhosting.com/catalog/images/ultra\_copper\_img.jpg](http://ziptie007.phpwebhosting.com/catalog/images/ultra_copper_img.jpg)

Well after staring at my turbo for about 3 hrs last night I decided that the shaft play on it was not acceptable. I looks like the cold side fins might have touches the housing at some point. Nothing major but instead of reinstalling it and waiting for it to fail I will take this time to send it off for a rebuild.

I sent the turbo to blast performance in Quebec. I’ll let you all know how it turns out.

Official work from Blaast is my Turbo has Too much damage to be rebuilt. This sucks. I have so many bills to pay and now I gotta get a new turbo. The Turbine wheel on the exhaust side had no fins left on the inside. The fins on the cold side were worn to much to be efficient anymore and my 360 thrust bearing was burnt and useless.
