Agreed on more space. I told my neighbor I installed the cutout just for them. haha it was part of why i did full exhaust.

You know I kept thinking that too but it looks like the glides are 1/8" npt and everything else is 1/4" straight thread with a washer from what i can find. Let me know if you hear/find anything different.

Further research looks like it’s just an 1/8"-27 thread… Which is NPT. Unless you have an ultra SFI case, then it’s 1/4". thread seal them bitches then burnouts.

I have tried thread seal. Just the top one leaks. I am worried the threads in the case are damaged.

Going to have to pull the trans. It looks like epoxy of some type around the fitting on the case right now. Im betting it has a crack in the case. Thanks rednecks who sold me the trans.

When I put that fitting back in it definitely did not snug up to just the taper. It seated the flange against the housing.

When I removed the fitting when it was first leaking I did my best to reseal it with thread seal and PTFE and tighten everything back up. The top fitting slammed the housing before it started to get resistance.

The lower fitting still had a good 1/8 clearance from the nut.

We need either an adapter with a longer thread depth or weld.

I have a piece that will work so long as the threads are not tapped deeper than the fitting allows…I think that is the whole problem.

I bet that same AN fitting won’t even bottom out on the second power glide…Fuuuuuuuu. It has to be that ONE. FUCKING. HOLE.

Just skimmed some of this while on the can at 2:30am. The trans oil cooler thread is NOT NPT, it’s NPSM, different pitch, and NPT will crack the housing. Hope this helps mang.

For a powerglide it is NPT.

For other GM transmissions it is not.

Also I guess I should update that I pulled the trans. Welded the cast alum case. Put the trans back in

Problem solved but I would still like a spare trans if anyone comes up with one.

I may be mistaking then. I know that the th400 uses that thread and that it’s common for people to use NPT and crack it. I got caught ASSuming. :embarrassed:

It sure should be a straight thread.

Hold on I will get some pics.
Fun fact of the weekend. I can take the car from running to trans out/in and running again in ~4hrs on this setup. Everything is pretty easy to get to which I was worried about since I installed the trans/motor together I wasn’t sure.

On saturday after wasting 3-4hours trying to get this thing to seal I pulled the trans to see whats up. Sure enough the previous owner cracked the case by going too tight with an NPT fitting. Then epoxied and painted it so I didn’t notice. Thanks brotato. This pic was after I started chipping it away.

Cleaned and prepped for welding. I didn’t take a post weld pic bu I covered the crack and then built out a good bit on each side. I despise welding cast Alum.
