You guys would do great as US politicians!!!

If you want to put words in my mouth before you bust out the protractor, what you learned in class today, and what you googled all by yourself like a big boy, do me the respect of understanding what I said in the first place!

Eurodrive, like anyone else is capable of building whatever clutch you like.

What I asked was why a stock pressure plate, and a kevlar 4 button sprung clutch should feel harsh?

Kevlar offers poor friction, but great resistance to heat. Which is why it is used in heavy equipment. So with low friction and stock clamping pressure, I fail to see why you would expect the clutch to be rough … and then go on suggest that 4 puck clutches are butter smooth.

50% increase in holding is not a huge difference. That means it will hold 240 lb-ft.

If it feels like stock, acts like stock, and drives like stock … odds are, stock would have worked.

A full face ceramic/semi metallic clutch will offer you a lot more over stock without needing to increase clamp.

I totally agree that most people over do it on the clutches. Two things that are relevant to an upgraded clutch - clamping force and engagement. If you don’t actually need them, they’re just annoyances. And for 99% of car owners (yes even with the mighty SR) a better friction material, or slight increase in clamping force will be all you will need.

I fail to understand the design of this clutch. 4 pucks need a much more aggressive friction material to work, because they have much less material engaging the flywheel. This is why they’re usually made with brass and designed to chew into the flywheel.

But then instead of cashing in on what minimal weight savings they have by design, they offer it as a sprung hub.

So, the best I can surmise is that this is a clutch made to look like a race clutch, but act like OEM. Which makes no sense.

Mark requested that it hold a minimum of 300ft/lb and although the guy at eurodrive didn’t specify a specific amount that it would hold, but he claims it will be more than enough for 300ft/lb.

Just a little tidbit.

If it held up for 240ft/lb I would agree that it would have been a waste. Dustin just dyno’d his stock SR with stock turbo at 266ft/lbs. It would be dissapointing if a $450 clutch couldn’t stand up to a stock SR.

I never once put words in your mouth. I was attempting to get clarification on the subject.

I said it felt like OEM… I was under the impression that the amount/ease of slipping was primarily affected by the disc surface design (e.g 3/4/6 button compared to a full face disc).
If this is not the case (as you alluded to that it wasn’t), what I then wanted to know was whether the pressure plate clamping force is what is primarily responsible for on/off engagement.

If it’s neither the face design or clamping force, then is it the surface material?

Mike.

The clamping force of the pressure plate as well as the coeficient of friction of the disk material are what determines the “grip” of the clutch. The pressure plate being the more prevailant of the two.
The pedal pressure is strictly dictated by the spring force of the fingers of the pressure plate.
There’s my 4:20 thought for the day.
