# My head unit finally died...

I’ve had a Pioneer DEH-8000 since like 1997. It has worked great for years… it was in my Blazer, in my S-10, and for the last year and a half has been in my car. The buttons were worn out so bad you couldn’t read them, but I didn’t need to read them, I know what they said. But 2 days ago, the button for my volume down broke. The button just fell out. I think thats the worst button to lose too. So for the last 2 days I’ve had to turn it down with the remote. Finally, this morning, it was dead. It wouldn’t turn on or anything.
I was thinking about just getting a new faceplate, since that all I’d need for new buttons but I can imagine that they are expensive due to theft. So I am considering a new face plate, or (_GASP_) going back to stock…
ANy info or insight? I still need to keep my sub so I might just go with the stock player and line level to RCA converter since I already have the RCAs run.

get a cheap sony headunit… mine lasted about a year and some in my car and another year on the shelf rigged to a car battery int he garage.
or use high level inputs on your amp if you can!!

I will end up going back to the stock one it seems. I would use the high level inputs but I would have to run wires from the back speakers and thats more of a pain than wiring in a converter in the dash while I have all the junk out.

I have a nice double din Alpine that I could sell you. I had it in my Jimmy a few years ago

Thanks but I will just go with the stock CD player. Aside from the RCA outputs, I can’t think of anything an aftermarket CD player (sub $150 range) would do that the stock one doesn’t. Plus I figure a stock deck is a big theft deterant in itself. And it matches.
