For those of you that don’t know me, I recently lost my solo seat cowl on my bike…long story short it came unlatched and flew off on the 198. Ugh.

I lost my favorite hat in the process but luckily for me I was able to recover it 🙂

What pissed me off:

1- The passenger seat looks lame.
2- Solo seat cowls are $100 on ebay

Anyways, thanks to Paulo and Tim for finding this for me! I got it for a steal on Craiglist for $50 🙂

On to the project…

What I started with:

2003-2004 Kawi Green Solo Seat Cowl (Craigslist picture)

First Step: Sand Down original paint with 220 and 320 grit sand paper

![http://photos-a.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/hs214.snc1/8121_289803480446_692180446_9052168_1075003_n.jpg](http://photos-a.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/hs214.snc1/8121_289803480446_692180446_9052168_1075003_n.jpg)

Step Two: Spray down 2 coats of Filler Primer, sanding with 320 grit in between coats

Step Three: Spay 1 final coat of Filler Primer, sanding with 600 grit after

![http://photos-g.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/hs234.snc1/8121_289803465446_692180446_9052166_3609646_n.jpg](http://photos-g.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/hs234.snc1/8121_289803465446_692180446_9052166_3609646_n.jpg)

Step Four: Spray 4 coats of Galaxy Silver Metallic, sanded with a progression of 800, 1000 and 1500 grit sand paper in between coats. I then sprayed 4 coats of enamel clear on it, wet sanding with 2000 grit after letting dry for a night.

Finished Product:

BACK TO NORMAL! And cost me way less than I would’ve spent on buying a new one. Overall I’m happy with how it turned out, not too shabby for an overnight DIY project 🙂

Nice job. Your hat must have gotten in the way when you went to clamp the cowl down. I still miss this bike so much. Still looks great.
