I guess this whole thought was triggered by reading the article on the 4 door R34. It reminded me of pretty much every car that’s ever been in a mag, and all the bullshit “you’re not cool if your wheels aren’t rubbing everything on your car must be excessive and unnecessary” threads we have on here.
I guess you could say I’m more dissapointed than anything. It’s not so much that the rich guys do this stuff, they always have and always will, but it’s that the average kid now wants to be exactly like them.
As to the expensive vs. cheap parts, yea I like to spend the money too, on stuff I think is worthwhile. Turbo components like a manifold, turbocharger, intercooler, etc… yea it makes a lot of sense to get quality vs. ebay.
However, running aftermarket 6 pot brakes on a car that never sees track duty… not so much. Or running coilovers with ridiculous spring rates on the same car.
Also, the non-functional stuff, makes no sense to buy brand name. Like bodykits… come on, do you really hate all the ones in North America so much that you have to order one that’s only available in Japan? I mean, it’s possible, don’t get me wrong, but not very F\*IN likely. More often than not, they just wanted to be JDM tyte.
What about gutting your car but still running a full competition audio system in it? Why’d you gut it to begin with then? It’ll sound a lot worse in a gutted car vs. one with a full interior and lots of dynamat. No, they wanted the cool track car look, but they also wanted the crazy system.
It’s just one dissapointment after another. I’ve yet to see a car that actually makes sense published in a mag. A nice, well thought out, well planned out car. And that’s just what I’m gonna build… gimme like… 4 years :lol:

You always say too much lately. I can’t believe this is still going on.
Again, so what if someone wants to be JDM tyte, it’s their car, their money, and if they want to do it to be cool so what? That’s what you call a “trend”.
You don’t need to go to the track to have coilovers/upgraded brakes.
You don’t see a lot of the nicer cars on the board at the track every weekend, but that doesn’t mean that their upgrades are pointless.
If I have a beater with coilovers, I’m a lot more likely to go to the track and “beat” on it than if i have 20-30k in upgrades because if you break something it’s a lot more expensive to fix it generally.
Why must you use every mod to it’s full potential all the time?
My car is much faster than yours but you don’t see me speeding down the road just because I can, same thing goes for other upgrades.
I can list a ton of cars on here that you might disagree with, but imo they are all nice cars.
A lot of people you probably know have full suspension setups or turbo cars but don’t go to the track all the time.
FYI, brand name bodykits are also proven to better for various reasons, fitiment, strength, build quality, aerodynamics, etc.

Eh, whatever, I guess it’s just me, I’ve always hated trends and people that follow them. Someone just lock this already, it’s getting redundant.
