How much power can be achieved with an N/A KA24e?
Apparently a lot. An alleged 250hp and 240 ft/lbs from this one. And dropped into a 510 at that.

BS

The max compression you can run on the KAE’s unless you shave the head is JE pistons which can bring you up to 10.5:1 apparently. Furthermore, I doubt he is making those numbers with stock EFI system. He should be running sidedraft webers or ITB’s with some sort of standalone map based management.

Not too mention solid lifter conversion, an extremly aggressive cam and loads of port and valve work to open up the pathetic flow.

Andrew.

Oh, it’s heavily modded.
Before calling BS. do a search under Rebello, or Sunbelt Engineering. You’ll find road race KA24e and L28 engines making 250-300 N/A hp.
There is no reason that if enough effort and money is spent why it can’t make those figures.
Also, kindly explain why the KA24e is incapable of running more than 10.5:1 compression.

Um there is a guy I know who has a KA up to almost 14:1 compression so its not bs its if you know what your doing.

PS he must see potential because he is currently running a SR

buddies Matty is running 14:1 with flattop pistons and shaved head. I did’t say it wasn’t possible, you will have to shave the head. And matty’s is a DE. I built a DE with 11.1:1 compression, all they need to achieve that is flat-top pistons from the KAE.

This engine is an SOHC, to achieve 14:1 compression you would need to shave the head ALOT, and i doubt you would have enough valve relief on the KAE to do this. Not to mention have fun tuning your’re cam timing.

He is not making 250hp with stock EFI system. DOn’t give me that BS, post a website to his mods, cause like hell. The 510 guys run carbs or ITB’s. Not even DeviousKA (sp?) on Nico is making those kind of numbers with his KAE. He has alot of head work done, agressive cam, solid lifters, 10.5:1 compression, ITB’s and MS map based standalone management.

Andrew.

Edit nowhere in my post did I say it wasn’t possible. I said 10.5:1 was possible, anything more would take head shaving. Please read.

Here are KAE pistons in a DE block. With the DE head about to go back on 😃

Now these are the 8.6:1 SOHC pistons, but in the DE they make 11.1:1 compression. This would look exacly the same if sitting in an SOHC block.

So, if you can imagine, these are almost flat-top with a slight recess, in a KAE they make 8.6:1, JE pistons have the centre of the piston built up and relief on the ends for the valves. If you shave the head anymore to get over 10.5:1 I would think you are going to have valve relief problems.

In the DE this gives 11.1:1 compression because the difference in combustion chamber design. However on the DE, you could probably and has been done, achieve over 11.1:1 buy either getting custom pistons made or shaving the head.

The problem with shaving the head is, when you take a fair amount off, you run the risk of throwing off the cam timing a bit. There is more slack in your timing chain. This subject I am not totally sure about. Since I h aven’t messed around with shaved cylinder heads.

how bout just getting custom pistons made with valve cutouts?

i would not shave the head at all

you could get 14:1 easy in the sohc motor… though 250rwhp and 240ftlbs would be on the high end of what i think is possible

IMO

yeah thats what the JE pistons look like Adam. You mean like this right
side view:
\_
/ \ best i could do with text lol. They make about 10.5:1 apparently (unless I’m mistakin, but I guess you can get more out of it.

And yeah shaving head is not all that smart, thats why I steered clear of it.

Andrew.

P.S. good to see you are still lingering around Adam 🙂
I still have those stock sways if you want them. I don’t know why you did but they are here. I need to clear out the junk, just come and get them and they are yours.

OK. I never said that it’s not hard to get that kind of power. You may want to ask Sunbelt or Rebello what is possible.
Stock? What is this stock of which you speak?
It is not really cost effective for a street car but it may be good for racing in a specific class where a turbo might bump you up.
Most major piston manufacturers will make you a set of custom pistons.

Tek

P.S. If you’re willing to change enough parts and tune the beast, any engine can put out the same as another of equal displacement. (In theory)

hey i did make the first high comp DE…then you followed and wooped my ass by bumping it 2 times as much as i did lol

i still find it VERY hard to believe that that 2.4l NA motor can make 250hp and 240ftlbs torque

it would have to move 375cfm of air …and the big size of the motor is gonna limit its rpm range…

whats so hard to belive about it? a stock ITR puts down 1.9hp/cc the guys at canadian cilnerhead will tell you a KA head will flow almost just as much out of the box…so whats so hard to say a KA can’t put 2hp/cc out?

Shit everyone will agree a honda can make 300+hp NA, but no a KA can’t…as a rule of thumb a NA motor can achieve 3.3hp/cc. Now i relize that is with massive work and tonns of R&D, BUT 2hp/cc isn’t that hard to do. I’ll prove it soon enough.
