What compilation of parts would it take to obtain 200hp from a ka24de. I mean, it is only 50 horsepower so it shouldn’t be **that** hard right?
ps. besides forced induction

What are your plans for the motor? Street or track?
How much do you want to spend?

200 hp should be possible with good high compression pistons, proper porting of the head, a set of custom ground cams, quality header/exhaust, and custom fuel mapping.

Get a copy of “how to … datsun L series” unless a book has been written about the KA.
There is a lot of information on how to gain power that is applicable to almost any motor.

So to answer your question. No its not that hard to get 200 NA HP from a KA24DE. If you know what your doing, or can pay someone who does.

Trevor.

I just did a quick google of Rebello ( a datsun engine builder) and found an old ebay listing for a KA24e that put 174HP to the wheels.

Doesn’t the aem ems boast something like +37hp on a stock KA24DE? I vaguely remember that when it first came out, aem was posting the increase in hp with just their new fuel maps and timing…could be wrong, but that’d get you damn close before all the other parts…

200WHP is very hard to obtain on an NA KA. Even with ITB’s, cams and high comp pistons(plus all the usual junk) I doubt you would make 200. Plus the cost/performance ratio is horrible. You could probably make a turbo setup for cheaper and make 250WHP. The highest HP NA KA was in some of Nissan’s offroad race trucks. I think they made like 250CHP, although they also needed to be rebuilt very often(every race?).

Don’t do it. Not worth it. This was my original plan for my 240. I bought some stuff then saw someone post a dyno chart with ITB’s. I wasn’t impressed so I ditched the NA dream.

Just buy a VQ. Good NA power!

170 Wheel is possible with ITB’s high comp pistons and 91 octane.

Anything higher lasts about 5000 kms then goes boom.

Go FI, definatly cheaper

How can a stock KA handle 250HP when turbo’d but yet is too fragile to take 200 NA?

The thread is not about whether building a turbo KA will be the cheapest/easiest. But rather if 200 NA HP is “easy” or “hard” to get out of a KA24. If you are Dave Rebello its easy. If you can pay Dave Rebello its easier.

By the way, from what I could find out as far as pricing goes, a GT3 KA24 by Rebello will set you back at least $6500US.

How do _you_ define “hard”?

Here is the deal so far, I don’t really feel like doing another motor swap, I don’t want to mess with turbo’ing a non turbo motor, I don’t want to use ITB’s and it seems that this AEM ems costs $2000. (too much)
I have been looking around at someother sites and other people have asked this exact same question. But they have been getting the same answers, some say it wouldn’t be that hard and some say it is impossible.
From the responses so far I would hazard a guess that the advertised 155hp is at the flywheel and not at the wheels, so 200whp is no longer an option. So i guess i am now going for 180-200 at the flywheel. Lets hear your thoughts on this.

the cheapest solution to your 200hp quest is a 75 shot of nitrous. you’d then be putting down close to 200whp. (stock is 140 something at the flywheel right?)

on my 240 for engine mods i had a stillen ECU, CAI, hotshot header, full magnaflow header back exhaust, e-fans and a couple other little things. i was making allright power for an NA ka. wasnt crazy fast or anything.

Trust me its hard to get any more out of a KA without FI.

The stroke is too long for alot of rev’s,

And nitrous does not count as NA. It is a power adder.

So the guy who listed his on Ebay was lying??? Is the dyno sheet a fake? I doubt it.
And he tuned the fuel injection, not a profesional, and not on a dyno. So more power is most likely there.

Enough with the turbo crap, its not what this thread is about. I think everyone here knows that turbos work.

Easy 200HP NO WAY. It’ll take lots of hours on the head, high flow intake and exhaust, the right pistons for a high compression ratio, cams that are made for 200 HP, and a good EFI setup SDS starts at about $1000.

Hard if you don’t enough skill or patience to do the job right. Stock parts will net stock power.

Pistons from a 90 model SOHC into the DOHC will bump the compression up to 11.1:1 And do not hit the valves. On 89 model SOHCs the compression is 11.7:1 but the pistons DO hit the valves as the depression in the top of the cylinder is not as deep.

[nicoclub.com](http://nicoclub.com) has a wealth of information on this in their KA section.

Good for you doing something different. But NA power = more money than its worth in most cases. That is unless you have american muscle power. Yes, 8 cylinders and more litres to work with than youll drink in a week. But please dont go that route either.

I’d go for the NA motor, they’re more expensive (thats just a fact) but a lot more rare in this day and age.

To get that kind power would be costly but there are many ways:
-Stroker Kit (2.6L KA24E/DE) [http://www.importperformanceparts.net/imports/strokerkits\_nissan.html](http://www.importperformanceparts.net/imports/strokerkits_nissan.html)

-Head work (Valves, Cams, Timing, etc)

and you know what… i’m starting to think this not too hard…

hmm ok, so are you really concerned if its technically “N/A” (regarding the nitrous) or do you just want a faster car without going turbo?
