Have to be at work at 5:30 tomorrow for a Video Conference test over our newly implemented MPLS. Mom just calls me up. “I can’t pay my credit card online” Background : I’ve told her 5 times how to do this already. She has to pay stuff online using this account because she signed up for some “high interest” accelerated money market account one of her friends conned her into signing up. 2.5%? I told her that her friends are stupid. I smelled bad news because my mom has issues checking her Gmail (which is now linked to her outlook, because she can’t figure the web interface out, even though I’ve showed her probably upwards of 40 times), but nooooooo, she is like “I can do it!” and ends up “not working” and she ALWAYS CALLS ME. Ok, back to like, now. “I can’t get on my account again, what’s wrong?” Last time, she was typing in [Citicards.com](http://Citicards.com), instead of [citi.com](http://citi.com). She wanted to make payments FROM the account TO the card, not have the card draw from the account. She had no idea what she was doing wrong. So there’s this HUGE “[WWW.CITI.COM](http://WWW.CITI.COM)” stickie on her monitor now. What happened? Oh, she signed onto [www.citicards.com](http://www.citicards.com) again. But she caught it as she went to the page again while I was on the phone. Oh, thanks mom! So she goes to [citi.com](http://citi.com), I go there as well on my laptop. I am telling her exactly where to go, exactly what to click, and she seems to not see what I’m talking about. Oh, you mean you want me to press enter after [citi.com](http://citi.com)? ARE YOU F\*ING KIDDING ME? I love my mom, but seriously, she knows how to surf the web, don’t you think things would kinda click by now…? Ok, so I’m like, forget it, I’m installing logmein on the machine. I get her to the website, she logs in under my account, I begin the installation, she’s like “I don’t see anything where it says run or whatever”. It’s Firefox, I know this, I ask her “Is there a downloaded items box or something with the filename ‘logmeininstall.msi’ (which she just read to me)?” “No.” Like, wtf? 10 seconds later “Oh, you mean this box that says downloaded items?” I want to kill babies. So logmein is installed, i hop on, i log into her bank account, yay. I show her to click on “MAKE A PAYMENT”, which she said she did, and then click on “MAKE A ONE TIME PAYMENT”, which she said she did also. Here’s the best part. So there are a bunch of payees listed there already. There’s one that she wanted to pay. She didn’t click on it. She just gave up because she thought it was the history because it showed last payment. Nevermind the “Click here to make a payment” button. So she tries to add a new payee. :picard: :picard: :picard: :picard: :picard: ---

Reminds me of my mother. She knows how to do shit on the computer…she works on one all day at her job. Then I get the “how to I read my work email from home.” Go to the bookmark I made for you that says WORK EMAIL FROM HOME. ---

My gf’s grandma does not pump her own gas she will go out of her way to find a full serve gas station…because she doesn’t know how to pump gas…seriously. ---

That, sir, is a beautiful rant and I feel your pain as well. I installed logmein long ago on my mom, aunt and uncle, sisters, and most of my friends machines for the sole purpose of helping them when they call me with issues much like what you are describing. Just be glad she doesn’t have a BlackBerry. ---

amen to that…unfortunately, idk if your dad is like this, but mine never stops working on the craziest shit, he just spent a weekend installing various trapdoors into the ceiling of his garage, one of which is a literal door, complete with handle and doorframe, so that he can put more large, empty cardboard boxes up there that he will continue to not use… and my mom…the woman has a PhD, she can use the computer just fine, but for some reason, she has absolutely no idea how to even answer her cellphone(its a flip phone set to answer when opened -\_-), something i’ve taught her a thousand times, and on top of that she demands that she gets really expensive cutting edge phones because they look pretty, expensive cutting edge phones that have never once been implemented in a way a free phone can’t be implemented, she has made calls with them…about 5 times…in about 4 years ---

Thank god my father used to do computer repairs (although it was back 15 years ago); he at least knows how to use a computer. Still can’t figure out why he gets a virus every 6 months or so… ---

Your not the only one. My mother is the same way…the latest was a phone call in hysterics…“my computer is crashed, everything is black, i cant get anything”…i go over there just go push the power button. lol and she too has been using a computer for a long time. she just has her moments lol. gotta love her. ---
