# Network Time Server?

Do I really need one on a closed network? If so how do I set this up? Is there a flavor of linux that i can use?

If you have anything that does replication its nice to have all the times synced between machines…

You can run ntpd on Linux…or MacOS X if you are referring to your work network…

im reinstalling the OS in a few min.

errors when windows trying to copy access files on the shares.

when i go to configure DNS it asks for a time server IP… i dont have one… so do i need one?

why not use a different server outside of your network… like [time.nist.gov](http://time.nist.gov) (example)

Unless your network is completely shut off to the outside world. IIRC you are into some sensitive data work. Then there might be secure severs you can connect to

Some network routers can run simple time servers to eliminate the need of a new server on your network to maintain.
