# New DOT Law for Trucks and Trailers

If your truck and trailer are over 10,000 lbs you need to get a dot number.Dot numbers cost $300.00.Law starts july 5th and you have to put the numbers on the side of truck.Just a heads .up.[http://www.dotauthority.com/](http://www.dotauthority.com/)
Looks like the DOT number is free if you’re a private (not for hire) carrier in some instances.

this state will do anythign to make money but 5 tons is alot not to have a DOT permit…if it was trailer only

5500 lb truck + 4000 lb boat and trailer when fully loaded (public scale verified) = 9500 lbs FTW.

there have been some states that are thinking of requireing a CDL for ANY vehicle with a GVW over 10k i.e. campers, horse trailers
I think its a good idea because not only do most people not even realise that their vehicle is so heavy they also have no clue how to drive it.
