if i had to guess i’d say it looks like the tubes banks use and this is built to test those systems? for shock and pressure levels? once its been run through you hook up a serial connector to it and get readings off?

Very close. It’s actually a wireless digital signature device so customers can sign digitally from their car.
I don’t know why they don’t paint the 1/2 of the tube black to hide the circuitry so it doesn’t look so menacing though. Right now Evil Jay is thinking about putting this thing in the trunk of my co-worker’s car who lives in Canada and tipping off customs about a “suspicious package”.

When I hooked it up to my PC it did ask me, in an 80’s computer voice, “Shall we play a game”.
I chose tic-tac-toe instead of global thermo nuclear war though.

Well, size wise it has to be a specific diameter to go through the tube and have enough room inside for checks and deposit slips etc.
But there seems to be about 10x more circuity in there than needed.
It’s basically just a sig pad with a 2.4ghz wireless receiver/sender. I’ve seen wireless cards for laptops no bigger than a USB thumb drive, and we’ve got lots of wired sig pads that aren’t much bigger than pack of cards. So I don’t get why this thing is so packed full of electronics.
It weighs like 2lbs. When it comes down the 6 foot or so drop most tubes have it’s gonna land with one hell of a thump.

^ It turns on when you open it, and stays on until you stick a paper clip through the hole and turn it off, or plug it in to the charger. The paperwork I got with it refers to an off switch on the bottom of the tube, but I’m assuming too many people were accidentally turning it off so they moved the switch internal.

So, exactly what does your company use this for, that they couldnt do without it? Does it help some process go smoother?
