# New SCCA Class: ITR

SCCA has created a new class for the 2007 season. Improved Touring “R” (just a coincidence with Acura ITR). It will be the fastest class with cars that virtually mirror road going cars, (save for the regional ITE, o.k. I guess there is AS and the Touring classes…). Most of the cars are new, except for some BMWs that get to move out of ITS and run without a restrictor and weight penalties. Cars to watch will be the MKIV Supras, Z32s are going both ways :tif:, S2ks and Boxsters will add to the mix…
The big step from ITS is that they can run up to 17" wheels and 8.5" wide, which is HUGE compared with 15" and 7".

How do you figure?
The F-bods have more torque.
The F-bods are allowed to weigh **400 lbs less**.
The F-bods have a develpoed racing program in American Sedan.

I have my money on the BMWs for the first year, those cars are already built and developed (except for moving up to larger wheels & tires).
What advantage does the 968 have over the 944S2? The 944S is allowed 200#s less than the 968.
I see the 968 has 32 more HP from the factory…

968 is 30% stiffer, has rear coil-overs available stock from the factory, has slightly improved geometry, has .5L more displacement, has more hp, has significantly more torque (thanks vario cam), improved aero, better gearing via 6 speed, larger brakes (both caliper and rotor) and can fit larger tires. Significant if you ask me.

-what does stiffness mean in a car that is going to have a cage anyways?
-they are both 3.0 l
-and unless I am missing something they both have 298mm f/ 299mm r brakes.
With the 200 lb advantage it sounds like they are closely matched.

I was just going to say the 944S2 is also a 3.0 but thats already been mentioned…
I think the 968 will be a strong performer in the coming season. It’s got a very nice platform with nicely revised structure over the 944.

Sorry I read 944S, not S2. So the displacement point is moot. The 968 does have larger brakes as an option, the S2 came with standard Turbo brakes IIRC.

Should just call that class IT$, because only people with lots of $$$ are going to have a chance. I’d rather run a car in T2 where the rules are much stricter.

ITS is already a money class, this is going to that much more worse. I think for $10k you could build a midpack ITR car and just go out and have fun. It would be fun to throw together a $2,000 F-bod car, get 200+ hp to the ground (@ 2,800lbs) and go bombing around. And by fun I mean not productive at all…
Would I build a front runner for that money though ($30k), no way. I would rather have a midpack Sports Racer, Formula, or GT car for that.
