Because the Ark (their ship) fixed them, woke them up, whatever and changed them so they could blend into the environment. I think part of the story is that either side was accidently woke up by the other’s “reconstruction beam”.
On cybertron they were worker vehicals/robots to begin with.

The Quintessons were the beings who made the transformers as slaves, the were also sold throughout the universe. They were designed toself replicate and did so till they gained sentience and rebeled. There were two types, worker robots (who would later become the autobots) and gladiator robots (who would later become the decepticons).
Two main robots- Primus begat Primon who begat Orion Pax, who became Optimus Prime after battling megatron and loosing
Maximo-killed Primus, stole the matrix, became Leige Maximo, Made three Incredibly powerful decepticons to battle the gaurdians (gaurdians were origionally HUGE slave masters built by the Quintessons to keep the rebeling robots in line, they were later reprogramed to battle their creators and than the decepticons) the three robots were shockwave, soundwave and megatron. :smash2:

ahh yes, and as fairgentleman z stated, the ark sent out a probe to see what earth native life was like, but the probe was confusored because it hit the earth at like 90000000000 miles per second. It therefor thought earths machines were the dominant life forms, relayed that info back to the arks computer teletran 1. The decepticons had boarded the ark in hopes of destroying the autobots, but since teletran 1 was also confused , it bgean to wake up the deceptions first by repairing them/giving them new bodies to blend in. The autobots were left for dead, and the decepticons left to steal energon from earth to get home. Unfortunatly, starscream ignored megatrons orders not to shoot the ark, and optimus prime’s body fell into the stationary repair beam. optimus prime than awakened and dragged all his comrades into the beam to be repaired

I checked the voices for this movie, Peter Cullen is the voice of Optimus Prime, the same voice from the cartoon and the Transformers the Movie. Fuggin Sweet!! I can’t wait to see this movie!!
