I love how blindly PC some people are on here…

Great article

> **WASHINGTON (CNN)** – In a blunt assessment of race relations in the United States, Attorney General Eric Holder Wednesday called the American people “essentially a nation of cowards” in failing to openly discuss the issue of race.
> Eric Holder spoke to an overflowing crowd for Black History Month at the Justice Department Wednesday.
>
> ```
> In his first major speech since being confirmed, the nation's first black attorney general told an overflow crowd celebrating Black History Month at the Justice Department the nation remains "voluntarily socially segregated."
>
> ```
>
> “Though this nation has proudly thought of itself as an ethnic melting pot, in things racial we have always been and continue to be, in too many ways, essentially a nation of cowards,” Holder declared.
> Holder urged Americans of all races to use Black History Month as a time to have a forthright national conversation between blacks and whites to discuss aspects of race which are ignored because they are uncomfortable.
> The attorney general said employees across the country “have done a pretty good job in melding the races in the workplace,” but he noted that “certain subjects are off limits and that to explore them risks at best embarrassment and at worst the questioning of one’s character.”
> “On Saturdays and Sundays, America in the year 2009 does not, in some ways, differ significantly from the country that existed some 50 years ago. This is truly sad,” Holder said.

If you’d read that article (I did earlier), you’d realize he’s talking about commenting on de facto differences in racial achievement, not about stupid jokes.

It’s not blindly PC to think that someone would have to be completely inept to let a racially-tinged article get published, even with no ill-will. It’s honest.

As for getting offended, I’m not offended by this. I think that the Post Editor and Cartoonist should be fired - not for being racists, but for being complete failures at their jobs.

(E: Unless you didn’t mean me by “some people.” Al Sharpton is one of those people who Atty. General Holder could be talking about, in this case.)

^ He’s trying to tell people to lighten up, pull their heads out of their asses and talk about all racial issues openly without fear of “offending” someone. Without doing that this country will never advance past the current (and past) racial stereotypes, etc that we’re dealing with.

I think you meant that to me, not to the guy actually above your post.

He’s talking about practical stuff, not saying “ya’ll minorities shouldn’t be offended by racist jokes, lighten up!” Big difference.

Yes I did.

And yes, this wasn’t directly about the cartoon, but more so how America needs to get over itself if it ever wants to advance and try to reduce racism (you’ll never end it, I think everyone realizes that). This cartoon was just a good segway.

…bunch of fucking oversensitive race card pulling ambulance chasers. Anyone with half a brain won’t be offended by that, as the fucking president doesn’t write bills! That’s a damn funny cartoon. Using a ridiculous current event to criticise another. That’s God damned witty! Fucking people getting all pissed off because of a political joke that involved a monkey, and we have a black president. Fucking lighten up. Fuck.

Point of order: you’re so wrong.

Members of Congress alone may PRESENT, AMEND, and PASS bills. But anyone may write a bill, people other than members of Congress FREQUENTLY do (and then pass them to their representatives). There are numerous cases where Presidents have written bills in our history, and while Obama did not put together the text on this bill, he pushed strongly for it, and it’s been the pet project of his first 100 Days.

Also: It’s completely absurd to imply that Sean Delonas, the cartoonist in question, may have been making a racially-motivated statement.

[Oh, wait… no.](http://gawker.com/5155855/ten-masterpieces-from-sean-delonas)

His history makes me think that he might have been aware of this undertone.

I still believe it was probably an oversight, but after looking at some of the rather controversial cartoons in his past, I wouldn’t put it past him.

you know whats racist saying shit like that ohh hes only this % black so hes not really black or fry calling him a halfrican, or the black messiah or balack jesus. that shit is offensive whether or not you guys care, or wanna believe it, it is.

stop with the excuses stop with the he didnt mean it blah blah blah. old racist white men have been calling blacks “monkeys” since before any of us were born it is offensive the cartoon is in bad taste, does he have the right to say it? he sure does, but dont get all fucking uppity because people dont find it funny. this cartoon was about pushing the line stirring people just like this, we all know whats right and whats wrong, this isnt racist its just bad taste but it sells papers which is the ultimate goal.

Im sick of this shit where a bunch of middle aged white guys says this isnt racist, this isnt oppresion when most of you wouldnt know real racism if it bit you in the ass. its amazing that our mods have stickies saying racism is a no no yet they cant even pick up on the subtle racism all the fucking time on here. In fact one of them comes in here and says oh its a joke and some how calls people like me race card pulling ambulance chasers.

So either racism is allowed on this forum or it isnt becuase im tired of seeing “oh yea i thought it was funny because of the racial undertones” or “id tell the banana pussies to go cry” and nothing ever gets done about that shit.

So now im asking all the mods is racism accepted or is it not???

Please, pay attention. This is the third time I’ve typed this. The problem is that this comparison to apes was a large part of the dehumanization of blacks which was used to justify slavery and Jim Crow society in the post-Reconstruction South. That’s why it’s much more offensive when it’s pointed at blacks than at whites.

Obama may be half white, but he’s being treated socially and in most Americans’ minds as “black.” Hence the first black President.

No racism is not accepted. I shouldn’t have made my “halfrican” comment. I admit that was in poor taste, and hypocritical given that I have tried to work against racism on here. I apologize for that and will remove it when I am done posting this.

But come fucking on. Monkeys are hilarious. Do we really have to stop finding humor in monkeys because we have a black president and “monkey” has a second meaning of a racial slur?

As moruitelda clarified for me, President Obama did not write this bill.

Just because you find racism in that cartoon why do we all have to?
