Swaintech cracks on thin wall stainless due to the thermal expansion.

Heat coating and wrap is a great idea on top of shielding or wrapping for crucial areas and harnesses. Check the heat shield product that APS uses in their kits that stuff rocks.

When I coat it, I want to coat everything. I want to see if there are any issues with the manifold before I do that, so I will wrap the DP for the time being, then down the road I can remove the manifold and coat it.

Because If I wanted to convert to manual brakes I need to change the lever ratio of my pedal… It’s easier to use power brakes. It’s not like you can just delete the booster. Doesn’t work like that.

summit sells manual brake kits that cater to different pedal ratios.

this one is currently being used in a e30 i know of on bimmerforums.

5/8 is too small with pedal travel almost to the floor and 7/8 is too large so find something inbetween and you will prolly be happy.

actually, you can just remove the booster, but the brakes will suck.
my first oval track car was that way, bent the pedal trying to stop.

good times.

But I also have a lot of volume to move, as I’m not on stock brakes…

Ya, you would need to change the pedal ratio from what Im guessing is 4 or 4.5:1 up to 6.5:1 or 6.75:1. Then mount the master cylinder up higher (which is a pain to get the pushrod angles right).

Im guessing you would need either a 7/8" at the very min, or 1" master to get the pressure you need (figure 1200psi for “emergency” braking) and the volume you need with all those pesky pistons.

It would simplify things in the bay some, and would give more consistent braking as there is no vacuum to vary the pressure applied, but its certainly a bit of work to do. Maybee if you start melting boosters, even with wrap, coating, and a heat shield, you might need to consider it.

Yea I understand the ratio needs to be changed, I didn’t realize it would need to be so intricate for that car.

For fbodies it’s as simple as a manual master and drill a hole 1 inch above the stock mounting point on the brake lever and remount it.

I agree with you, it is what it is. I wil not convince you what you should do. It is almost a waste of time for me to type this, but i have a few min before a meeting…

i understand, you have already change the whole braking system logic with the change of the big brake kit, and wheel and tire combo.

Was this the size the [http://www.stanscycle.com/bmw-master-cylinder.html](http://www.stanscycle.com/bmw-master-cylinder.html) that would make it a 20.64mm MC and u have upgraded to a 25.4mm MC. So in this you have changed everything and kept the old pedal ratio.

> Pedal ratio is the ratio of leverage you brake pedal applies to the master cylinder.

will it stop = yes
will the pedal ratio matter = no
will you change it = only if you have to

but other wise good job. alot of hard work, i hope it pays off in the 1st ride.

</div>

It might not need to be, but I know on my Cavalier if I just changed the pedal ratio and mounted the master to the firewall, in place of the booster, the angles werent quite right, at least not equal change above and below perpendicular.

It didnt need to shift by much, 1/4" or so, but it was a pain to measure etc. My booster was mounted at an angle, which probably limited the amount of master cylinder movement. If the E30 booster is moutned perpendicular to the firewall, the master cylinder position would need to be shifted even more.

The last thing you want is a large side load on the master cylinder piston. For me I wanted it to have as even of an angle above and below perpendicular as possible.

Also, if you dont source a purpose manual master, a pushrod retainer of some sort would need to be fab’d.

horizontal movement wont change the ratio, it would have to move towards or away from the folcrum vertically to change the ratio

let me start by saying… the brakes will stop the car. i ❤ newman, and if i was building something i would be treated the same way.He is doing a great job and i hope he enjoys ever min of the car.

but just reading the thread, everything in the system has been changed. the pedal ratio, booster, MC, BBK, wheels. You cant use pedal ratio, it is better to say " I dont want to do that - no reason, i just dont want to do it"

that is ~true, but the pedal and booster and MC, are all diffferent.

b/c when ur at the track with the wheels off the ground f-body style with less then .5 gallon in the car it matters…:retard:

I was saying that in response to the picture quoted, not the whole system.
