# NFL Players Donate $ 1,000,000.00?

Driving around today and heard the NFL players donated a combined total of $ 1,000,000.00 to the Red Cross in the aftermath of the storm. Since I don’t follow football (and don’t ask me why) I did a little quick research and tell me if my numbers are even close here.
32 NFL teams x approx. 50 players per team = around 1,600 players
$1,000,000 divided by 1,600 players works out to roughly $ 625.00 per player.
Is this right? Could this be correct? Is the **average** donation from an NFL player really $ 625 measly dollars? Some football head has got to know what the lowest paid player in the NFL makes these days. I read somewhere the minimum salary these days is $ 285,000. My quick math puts this at less than 1% of the lowest paid players salary. If this is true, based on what some of these guys make, this is entering the realm of ultra cheapskate. I am being petty?

Seriously like these people don’t have to do anything. Even if it is publicity it’s nice they are even donating a million. Where’s your $625 donation if its so measly.

I guess I/m trying to relate it to the “average Joe”. When you see someone making millions of dollars for playing a game, it seems like it throws things out of proportion. Maybe just going through hockey season withdrawls.

I think a million dollars is alot for a donation, no matter the number of people or whom its coming from, all for a good cause :shrug:
And for once its money that is going to help people in our own country and a worth while organizaiton.

Without reading a single article or doing an ounce of research, my guess is that the nflpa is donating the money out of their coffers that have been created over the years with union dues. So basically they are just taking this chunk of money out of their union bank account and nobody is even feeling the $625 hit.

This. Work unions donate money all the time for causes the members deem worthy. Just because it isnt a lot of money per player doesn’t mean it won’t make an impact. I don’t see how someone can have a problem with this.

You know that the “average” NFL player has a career span of about 2 years right? We think of these guys as grossly overpaid, but the vast majority of them don’t make the millions that we associate them with, and by the time they are 26 or 27 they are done and back out in the real world. At least they gave something.

Again, not a football buff but two years? Why would you invest the time and effort involved in working towards a career that lasts two years, assuming you make it? My guess is anyone desiring a football career works towards it from an early age. What percentage of players do you think are only in for two years (2, 5, 20, etc.)?

They don’t plan on having a 2-year career, but that is the reality. Most get drafted and never make the team, or get hurt, or simply move on.

Exactly. For every guy that has a 12 year career, there are 200 guys that play 1-3 seasons and move on with their lives.
