Supervisors will begin monitoring the amount of time workers spend in the john and “respond appropriately”. Obviously the local union considers this a petty move by the automaker that doesn’t address real issues needing attention at the plant. The article quotes an industry consultant who nicely sums up the ingenious move by upper management: “Only someone from Harvard could think of something as stupid as monitoring bathroom time.” [Source](http://www.detnews.com/2005/autosinsider/0510/27/A01-363210.htm) ---

i havent been in a bathroom for 48 minutes in a week thats freakin insane. good maybe cut down on auto costs now. ---

i could easily spend 48 minutes on the pot at a time, nest in with a magazine. maxim or popular science would do the trick, have a little alone time to read about stuff, collect my thoughts, all while having my trousers around my ankles, can’t beat it. ---

I’d like to see that and a “slow walking” policy enacted at my plant. You could put a 6 month old baby on our floor and they could go end to end in the plant faster than the workers. ---

I’ve had the pleasure of having worked in a blue collar union shop and a white collar environment. It was a completely different world out there in “the shop”…one guy’s nickname was “shitbreak” and the other guy was “smokey”. I’m ready to try self-employment next 🙂 ---
