This is what I want to know too. I always put my right hand up to signal that I see them too when it’s not convenient to pull over immediately.

Edit, already answered.

Yah I had five tickets in my Corvette issued by an Amherst Cop when I was leaving UB one day. I think they were modified exhaust, no front plate, unsafe start, illegal lane change, and crossing a median. I ended up paying one $100 parking ticket lol.

I too have had one screaming mad cop incident. Amherst, S curve on John Muir, my old Fiero. Came around the S curve way over the 30mph limit (probably 50+), saw the cop at the end of the road and jumped on the brakes. Well, do that in a MR car and you do a nice sideways drift while scrubbing off speed. Cop almost did a smokey donut to get behind me, ran up yelling and red faced, saying I was lucky he didn’t get my speed or he’d be taking me to jail blah blah. Ticketed for unsafe tire, obstructed plate and failure to stay in lane. Went home, swapped another set of tires on steelies on, removed my plate cover and headed over to APD the next morning to have those two tickets tossed out. Showed up to court and had the lane ticket dropped to a $75 parking.

To be fair, I was doing a lot of things wrong. Probably not enough that the cop should have lost his cool that much, but whatevers. 🙂

> As soon as I see lights (which is rare because I don’t really drive like an asshole) I pull as far as I can off the road, or a well light parking lot if I’m on a busy multi lane street AND SHUT OFF MY CAR. One cop actually thanked me for pulling off the road when I was on NFB near AJ’s. I am wondering if you were asshatting subconsciously for a while and the cop was following far behind unknown to you.
>
> For the most part, they LOVE when the car is shut off, and your hands are on the steering wheel with legit papers ready to go as they are walking up. It looks so much safer to them than a limo tinted car with people rummaging under seats and in glove boxes day or night.

The whole point of not having your papers ready is so you can spend the small amount of precious time you have to communicate with the officer.

Papers Ready = “Give em to me and walks away”

Papers Not Ready = “License and registration” You - “Yes, I’m just going to reach over and get them.” —then shoot the shit or do something to make the cop like you.

If everything is wham - bam, then you have no time to gain rapport or admit guilt and be reasonable.

I keep tootsie rolls in my car. When I give the cop my license and registration I give them a tootsie roll. You cannot get angry when you have tootsie rolls in your hand, it’s just not possible.

Sorry that’s hard to believe, the Amherst court system is a joke and really puts the hammer down on people, just ask me and $450 later… And fines ARE payable that day…

In that thread about that cop making the girl get naked on the side of the road, didn’t someone mention that we have the right to find a safe spot when getting pulled over? I’m sure that ticket will get dropped anyway, but might be something to keep in mind.

I got off brutally easy on 2 VERY overdue tickets that caused my license to be expired in Amherst. Sounds like you suck.

I FLEW past a cop once probably 70 in 35, he gave me a ticket for “unsafe speed”. I’m surprised he didn’t hit you with that.

Or all of that extra time will give him more time to possibly redface yell, getting you more pissed off to the point of saying something you will regret.

It’s all really up to the cop, and the OP lost the draw on this one.

I’ve never had problems with cops ever. I’ve been let go 3 times, and ticketed 3 times. All of the times i was doing something illegal/hd something illegal done to my car. All of the cops have been nice to me, and have always been nice to me in court and drop the tickets to a parking ticket. (srsly though why dont they just hand out parking tickets for everything instead of wasting both of our time lol?)

It is all on how you present yourself. If you come across like an asshole, you will be treated as much. Anyone can say all they want how nice, polite they are. Again it all on quick judgement from the officer. (Yes some are just dicks all the time)

there is more than likley more to the story, 3 side rule. Your his and the truth

Cobramann Loves WOT pulles infront of the police.

Sure, I read this thread yesterday and get pulled over this morning. Long story short, going to look at a job in Amherst and got on the 190N near the Peace Bridge. Trooper sneaks up on my left, matches, slows, and hits the dance lights. Saw I wasn’t wearing my seatbelt but pulled it under my arm waiting for him to get to the window. He was polite, I was polite, I got a warning because my slight of hand worked. He started off right, and I wasn’t smart. I think he just wanted to get a better look at the “Land Rocket”.
