Reading the article on CNN about the budget “outrage” in NY, the number $121 billion really stuck out. That’s the cost of the current proposed budget. It got me wondering what other large states spend on their state budgets.

Florida is the closest to us in population, at 18.2 million to NY’s 19.2 million.
**Florida’s proposed state budget for 08/09… 70 billion**

Really? There’s no where to cut when we’re spending 51 billion more than a state with just 5.5% less people. I guess FL must be like some 3rd world country with such limited government spending.

Not to try and defend NYS because believe me, I’m so F’n pissed at this state its not even funny.

But I’m sure Florida brings in a lot more dollars from tourism which helps them. Let’s be honest, who the hell comes to visit NY. Does that equate to $51 billion, no chance in hell, but I’m sure its something.

I’m betting Florida draws a lot more tourism overall than NYC does. Granted I’m sure we bleed tourists dry when they come to NYC with all our wonderful taxes.

Again, I’m in no way trying to justify Gov. Blind Idiot’s new plan, I’m just saying.

I think some of you are missing the point. Regardless of how the tax money is made, they spend over 50billion less than we do. Thats what they spend. So what are the reasons that our state needs to spend 50 billion a year more?

We have:

1. road maintenance.
2.
3.
4.
5.

I bet it comes down to one phrase, social programs. How is it in a state that is known for old people going there to die, we have higher medicaid costs? Maybe florida doesn’t pay for every fucktard to go the the ER for a cold for starters.

I would guess that health care would probably explain the variances. State funded medicade programs account for a huge portion of the budget.

PA is the closest northern state by population with 12.3 million. Their budget for 08/09 is 28.3 billion. 34% less people, 77% less money spent.

Again, not the point. We don’t care how they get their money. The fact remains that we’re **spending** 51 billion more.

What I’d really like to know is why our so called news agencies aren’t putting the politicians on the spot in front of the cameras with cold hard numbers like these. This took me all of 2 minutes to look up. Spend a solid day going over various state budgets and you could outline item by item where NY is really blowing our money.

While the populations maybe be close the fact that nearly 10million people live in nyc is what truely screws us over.

When we go over budget plans for where I work we always need to look at how the money is given to NYC its gross. If we could spread the population of NYC to Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse etc…etc… I bet socioeconomically speaking our country would be better off.

yea, the fact they are spending 50 billion less then we are is insane and just goes to show how fucked up this state gov actually is…

florida also gets away with having NO state income tax.

NYS also has no limits on welfare… thats a BIG cost…

but Florida has all the seniors on medicade… so THATS a big cost…
