# NYS Bans Drivers from Idling Cars While Unattended

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) – If you start your car and go back indoors to let it warm up, you could get a ticket.
Under New York state vehicle and traffic law, it’s illegal to leave a car running unattended with the keys in the ignition – even if you lock the car door.
Now, down the thruway in Rochester, a new police detail will start enforcing the law to stop people from making themselves an easy target for thieves.
Police say recovering a stolen car takes a lot of time and effort and is costly for police as well as the victims. So they’re hoping to prevent more thefts by ticketing running cars.
The violation carries a $130 fine.

Oh, so they need more money?
Why don’t they just ask us nicely for our kidneys instead of sugar coating it? I’m sure they’re REALLY concerned with cars being stolen out of our driveways, parking lots, etc.
I’ll take my nice, warm, piece of crap car…THANK you very much.

It sounds like to me the law has been on the books they’ve just chose to start enforcing it. Article didn’t say thing about it being a newly passed law.

Yeah Don’t all remote starts have it where you can’t push the gas or the brake or put it into gear unless the key is in the ignition? I know mine is like that.

brake and yes. as soon as the brake is pressed the RS shuts down
if that fine is $130, you’re better off adding a lil more cash and getting a car starter that you can use over and over again fine free!!

my friend had a ticket last year for that, he left the keys inside the car and went in to get something in Tim hortens soon as he comes out there was two cops next to his car and one of them had his keys in his hands so he end up with 2 tickets one fore leaving his car on and other one for window tint
