You do actually need to carry a note for Auto Tune to work but its impressive that T-Pain and a lot of rappers made millions on using it.
Anyone who has used it before does know its not as a wonder tool as they say. It does balance you out and keep you on a pitch but you still need to know how to somewhat sing and not be tone deaf.

Because he’s a genius.
He took a basic ability of knowing what a note is and being able to come close to it vocally, used a $999 program to tune it around that note, and added a simple beat to it and made MILLIONS on it.

Haha becuase it takes talent to hold a note.
I was playing with it at my friends. I had my laptop with Fruity Loops, Adobe Audition, and Auto Tune. She has been singing for years and if she sings right on the note you tune to, you never hear the auto tune. She then sang the same verse like 95% of the people out there now with CDs who know what a note is but cant sing at it the whole time and it makes it sound “good”.
Its really funny what the music industry turned into.
