# Obama's new chief of staff supports a draft?

Because thats the most common way young people serve our country.
There is no way that Obama could make a mandatory program and again thats not what he says he wants anyway.

I dont look at it as fear tactics, it’s just looking at a situation and analyzing the possible outcomes.
It wouldn’t matter if it was democrat or republican, I think you need to understand that. Take a look at the last few months or years of threads about the republicans. It doesn’t matter who it is. It’s all the same game, just different faces.
You need to relax, even if it’s just a little. Breathe with me. In, out.

liberals have turned “fear mongering” into their own version of the conservatives “Islamo Facists”
Fear Mongering? How the hell could I be fear mongering and what would be its purpose? Obama has already been elected president.
This is just a discussion of possible legislation the administration could push for given their previous opinions and speeches.
Like I have said previously, without constant discussion and questioning Democratic Republics fail and turn into something bad.

When you take an idea like a program to promote civic involvment and military service and turn it into a “draft” thats fear mongering.
I’m sorry but none of the things that have been posted comes close to the possibilities you guys say can happen.
The title of this thread is “Obama’s new chief of staff supports a draft?” and theres no evidence of that.

i agree civilian service is very different from being drafted into the military and its only for 3 months. 3 months of cleaning up natural disastors or helping people who are suffering from some kind of fall out. If something like that were in place after katrina, new orleans would be much further along then it is and the cost to do it would have been less. i think its a great move and in many ways would prove to be a humbling experiance for most of the self centered ingrates in this country.

You guys have gotten pathetic. You’re in here screaming that he’s going to take away freedoms, yet if you would open your eyes and think for yourselves you would see that the opposite is happening. He’s already working towards enforcing our constitution at Guantanimo Bay. Bush started us down the road to step 8 of Tyler’s Cycle of Democracy. Obama just got elected and he’s already working to restore the democratic processes we gave up under Bush.
I’m not afraid of optimism. I’m not afraid of community. I’m not afraid of democracy. I’m not afraid to consider the sources of what I hear and think for myself. I’m not afraid to walk away from this place when the destroyers are trying to claim victory for their cynical fear by tearing down hope.
You are welcome to think that Obama is my shepherd, but if that is the case then yours is surely fear. At the end of the day we both have the same president, but which one of us is better off?

Yes and Obama has still not said anything along those lines. Stop stretching the truth to meet your needs.
Obama is not supporting a draft in anyway. He simply wants to return to the idea of service that was promoted by Kennedy.

A military draft is pretty far removed from a call-up to civil service.
Has anyone ever been selected for jury duty? What is so different about this besides the term?

No, but we could. That’s why this moron is flipping out about it being a “draft”. We only hear the term ‘draft’ when talking about going to war, so the meaning of it sounds much more invasive of our rights as a free American.

Read the thread again and take a look at where it was going.
The thread began with saying that Emanuel wants a ‘draft’ for civil service-----\>\>\>Obama wants more civil service done by Americans-----\>\>\>Obama wants a ‘draft’ for civil service.------\>\>\>\>Obama wants a military draft.
This is a comlpete stretch of the topic to make people fear the idea of draft under an Obama administration.
